Respectfully… I was not about to pass out over bubbles 🌬️😵‍💫

And I wasn’t about to buy a bubble machine when I already have everything I need in my room

So I made my own setup 🫧

This bubble + fan combo has won over even my most stoic patients

I think it’s the ✨creativity✨ for them…
but really, it’s the control 🫶🏼

Either way, this elicits so 👏🏼 much 👏🏼 language 👏🏼

on/off
up/down
fast/slow
high/low
stop/go
more/all done
big/small

…and that’s just the beginning!

Same bubbles, but make it a therapy party ✨💃🏻🫧

and somehow… this song was the perfect fit 🎶

Me pretending to be chill while internally nerding out over swallowing anatomy and electrode placement ⚡️

Say hello to your newest Ampcare trained clinician! 🎉

Ampcare ESP is a dysphagia treatment approach that combines neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) with targeted swallowing exercises to support swallowing function.

For some kids who struggle with safely managing foods and liquids, tools like this can help support stronger, safer, and more coordinated swallowing skills as part of their therapy journey.

So grateful for opportunities like this that challenge my brain, grow my clinical skills, and remind me how much I genuinely love this field ♥️

Also shoutout to the emotional support coffee and who carried me through this training after a 5 hour flight 😴☕️

En mi (Ari)zona 🌵♥️

This past weekend I got to experience a first of a lifetime…presenting in front of hundreds of SLPs on something I love dearly. WOW. To say this was incredible and exciting is putting it lightly. I know I’ve done my “thank you’s” a few times already, but it must permanently live on my IG…so, thank you to the following people in my life:

• My Mom & Dad for being the most wonderful parents in the world, traveling to AZ with me y por apoyarme en todas mis aventuras...besitos, los quiero mucho.
• for believing in my abilities when I didn’t and being a forever friend. ILYSM.
• for giving me this incredible opportunity and continuously encouraging me to be better and push myself outside of my comfort zones.
• for being my mentor, an incredible human that has taught me more than I could ever explain & forever friend.
• & for
LITERALLY teaching me to be a feeding therapist in real time. Los quiero MUCHÍSIMO.
• my NCHS girlies who literally help me level up EVERY DAY!

And to everyone I met this weekend…I’m SO excited to see how we continue to grow alongside one another, both professionally and personally. What a special way to start our friendships…in the desert!

Hasta el año que viene//Until next year…😘

(Reel to come later…maybe 😉)

Let’s talk toys…

Toys in feeding therapy are not the problem.
But the way some of us use them is.

I’ve seen toys completely take over a session.
Kids playing, laughing, staying comfortable… and never actually engaging with the food.

I’ve also seen a tiny dinosaur be the only reason a child stayed at the table long enough to tolerate food in their space.

So which one is right?
Neither. And both.

Because this isn’t about toys.
It’s about clinical intention.

I use toys in my feeding sessions because, for some kids, play is what lowers their guard, builds trust, and turns “I’m not touching that” into “okay…maybe.”

Toys can be the bridge…but they should never become the destination.

Some kids need less. Less noise and less distraction so they can actually process food.

Other kids need more. More connection, more play, and more safety so food feels approachable.

Both deserve to be met where they are.

But here’s the part we don’t talk about enough:

Toys can quietly turn into avoidance.
And if you’re not intentional, you can end up with a whole session that looks fun…but your patient never actually moved forward.

So no, I’m not anti-toy.
I’m pro using them with purpose.

I always ask myself:
Is this helping my patient move toward food… or away from it?

The answer guides me every time. 🦖♥️🍽️

Welcome to Olympics Season! (aka my FAVORITE season) Here’s how I incorporate the Olympics into my sessions with my patients:

FLAGS: My patients and I decided to start making some flags together to cheer on our favorite athletes. To make these flags we used paper, markers, scissors, tape and Google 😂. Each step of this activity can be manipulated to meet the needs of each individual patient. Through this activity we can target a variety of goals such as following directions, requesting, identifying, etc. I also reached out to my OT bestie, and she listed a few areas that can be targeted for that discipline, such as scissor skills, hand strength and visual motor skills.

BOOKS: as per usual, books are some of my favorite ways to target goals! Within these books we can target identification of verbs, verb tensing, answering “wh” questions, etc.

How do you incorporate the into your sessions? 🏅
