Marilyn Monroe had both a chin implant and a rhinoplasty to refine her features.

Her story began around 1950, when an offhand comment about her “chinless” profile pushed her to consult a surgeon.

Q: Will insurance cover my rhinoplasty?

A: No, but if you require a septoplasty or other medically necessary nose surgery, such as the treatment of a nasal obstruction, your insurance may cover part of your combined surgery.

Coverage varies, depending on your policy; however, when you combine your medical necessary surgery with a cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure, insurance may cover a substantial portion of the operating room, facility fees, and anesthesia.

This reduces the overall cost of your surgeries.

It's best to do both at once, avoiding the additional out-of-pocket expense for what insurance would have covered.

This, of course, depends on your policy and needs during surgery.

Prioritizing price over skill and expertise will cost you more than just your surgery.

In addition to the health risks associated with botched procedures, the cost to correct these surgeries are often far more expensive than the original surgery would have been with the same surgeon.

There's always a risk with any surgery, but risks are higher when you choose a surgeon based on the lowest price.

If a surgeon can charge far lower than other surgeons, ask yourself what safety measures are being cut to give you that price.

One patient in the article said the anesthesia didn't work; she felt every cut.
Another patient said she could feel the needle penetrating her skin for stitches.
