ER or urgent care after plastic surgery?

My first recommendation in most situations: call your plastic surgeon.

Your surgeon knows exactly what procedure you had, what is expected during recovery, and what may actually require additional evaluation. Many postoperative concerns can be assessed by your surgical team without an unnecessary trip elsewhere.

If you can’t reach your surgeon—or your symptoms suggest you may need a higher level of care—the emergency room is generally the more appropriate destination than an urgent care center for a potentially serious postoperative issue.

Of course, if you believe you’re experiencing a medical emergency, don’t delay emergency care while waiting for a response.

A good postoperative plan should include knowing who to call, what to watch for, and where to go if something doesn’t feel right.

Save this before surgery, and send me your postoperative questions below.

One of the most common questions I receive is whether plastic surgery always requires general anesthesia.

The answer is no.

Many procedures can be performed safely and comfortably while patients remain awake when the patient, procedure, and environment are appropriate.

The goal is never to force one approach on everyone.

The goal is to choose the safest and most appropriate option for each individual patient.

These patients underwent completely different procedures.

Different anatomy.
Different goals.
Different concerns.

One of the biggest misconceptions about plastic surgery is that there is a standard approach to achieving great results.

There isn’t.

The best surgical plan is never about performing the same operation repeatedly. It’s about understanding the individual patient sitting in front of you and creating a plan tailored to their unique anatomy, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals.

Whether it’s facial rejuvenation, eyelid surgery, body contouring, or injectables, the process always begins the same way:

Listen first.
Plan carefully.
Operate precisely.

Because great results are rarely created by a procedure alone.

They’re created by thoughtful decision-making.

The operation may last a few hours.

The decision-making process often takes much longer.

One of the most important parts of my job isn’t performing surgery—it’s helping patients understand their options and creating a thoughtful plan that aligns with their goals.

Good outcomes begin long before the operating room.

That’s why every consultation matters.

“At what age should I get an upper blepharoplasty?”

It’s not about AGE!!!

It’s about SYMPTOMS!

Age is correlated with worse symptoms because of loss of skin elasticity, sun damage, and volume loss. However, patients as young as in their late 20s could have these symptoms and be fit from an upper blepharoplasty.

Facelifts should never look pulled!

The key to a great, natural looking facelift is to restore your skin and tissue back to its original position and maintaining the proper anatomy. The skin and tissue should be moved together instead of separately. This decreases bruising and swelling and speeds up recovery.
