Yesterday I had the privilege of serving as a guest speaker for the Mental Health Occupational Therapy class at Midwestern University, where we explored trauma-informed care through a nervous system lens.
It had been a long time since I stood in front of a classroom, and I forgot just how much I love teaching. There is something energizing about being surrounded by curious minds asking thoughtful questions and imagining how they’ll carry this work into their future practice.
A special thank you to Susan Tully for inviting me into your classroom. It was an honor to share this space with you and your students. Your commitment to preparing future occupational therapists to understand mental health through a trauma-informed, nervous system lens gives me so much hope for the future of healthcare.
One of my greatest passions is helping bridge the gap between neuroscience, trauma, and healthcare. The more we understand the nervous system, the more we can create environments where healing is possible, whether we’re psychologists, occupational therapists, physicians, nurses, or any member of the healthcare team.
This work matters. And I can’t wait to continue bringing it into classrooms, hospitals, clinics, and communities.
