We interrupt your regularly scheduled mental health content for an important announcement...

Chyllia wrote a children's book, and it's officially live on Amazon.

It's called Ellie and the Oh, and it's a beautiful little story about curiosity, wonder, belonging, and discovering that sometimes the thing you're searching for has been with you all along.

If that sounds suspiciously like something coming out of Hazelwood, you'd be correct.

If you'd like to support a local author, a small business owner, and someone who poured a little piece of her heart into a story, we'd love for you to check it out.

And before you ask... yes, Book #2 is already underway.

Some ideas just don't know when to quit.

Mental health is more than a mindset..it’s how you manage your sleep, stress, hydration and a healthy gut microbiome. The answer to ailments like anxiety, irritability and depression could actually be rooted in your gut. Considered our “second brain”, our gut has its own nervous system with over 500 million neurons that communicate directly with the central nervous system (CNS) via the vagus nerve and explains why we get a “gut feeling”

Every morning, as part of my quick journaling process, I ask myself: What is the ONE thing, if I do it today, makes today a win?

Yesterday I talked about my morning journaling and how I identify my one priority for the day. This isn't a to-do list. It's one thing. The thing that, if the rest of the day falls apart, I can still say I accomplished something, it was a good day.

This does something powerful for anxiety. It shrinks the overwhelm. When you're juggling a hundred responsibilities, your nervous system doesn't know where to start. So it either spirals or shuts down. One clear priority is an anchor.

Try it tomorrow. Before you open your email, write down ONE priority. Just one.

Today's challenge
Before you open your email tomorrow, write down your ONE priority for the day. Nothing elsee on the page yet. Just that.

Here's another quick tip to improve your mental health during Mental Health Awareness Month...

Journal every morning.

My morning journal isn't a diary. It's a five-part mental health check-in that I do before the day gets loud. I'm going to break each piece down over the coming weeks but here's the overview:

→ My one priority for the day with one small action I can take
→ My current energy level and what I can do to improve it
→ Three things I'm grateful for
→ What time I'm done working
→ A brain dump — whatever's on my mind, including dreams, to-do lists, great ideas, crappy ideas, just all the things rolling around inside my head

Some days it's a sentence. Some days it's a page. The consistency matters more than the length.

Science note: Expressive writing activates the prefrontal cortex, helping regulate the emotional brain. Even brief journaling has been shown to reduce cortisol levels and improve psychological well-being over time. And there's a lot of research on gratitude.

Today's challenge
Grab a notebook. It doesn't have to be fancy. And try this five-part check-in tomorrow morning. Ten minutes or less.
