Garry’s work is part of the foundation for the work we do as Play Therapist. Even though CCPT wasn’t my preferred method it where many of us started as his influence was so powerful.

I’ve been up since 1:47 am. Why, because that’s how my brain works. Over the years I’ve learned to let my brain do what it needs to do when I’m preparing for something. This Saturday I’m giving a training on something that is near and dear to my heart, creating culturally affirming play therapy spaces. I went back and forth on putting this training out there with the typical questions “will people sign up” “is this content people need” blah, blah, blah.

I get it there are hundreds of options for CE trainings and hundreds of speakers, who I’m sure are asking the same questions (at least I hope because that’s what keeps us learning and growing).

So at 1:47 this morning my brain was going about how to take something I’ve been researching for years and funnel it down to three hours (if you’ve been in a training with me you know the slides will be changed multiple times before the presentation), how do we recognize clinical blind spots not as deficits but as growth opportunities, how do we acknowledge that joy wasn’t always promised but can be claimed. Most importantly how do it while centering play.

I’m excited for this one, and hope you are too!

(Also send coffee ☕️ it’s going to be a long day 🥱)

Why this training/cohort?

People very often see the end of decades of work but don’t know the full story.

This is the reality that I share, the first 6 months of private practice I had three clients, yes three. I had left comfort and safety behind for a kitchen table dream.

We took a huge risk in opening a group practice, we’ve weathered more storms than most people realize. During the lows we still showed up the same as we did during the highs. Sticking to our foundational grounding

Private practice isn’t super glamorous and to be “successful” you have to determine what that means for you internally.

Braving Private Practice isn’t about how to make a ton of money, getting an LLC or creating funnels it’s about clarity. Understanding who you are as clinician, what parts of you show up in therapy space and what road blocks are getting in the way of your calling- the clinical work.

If you want to take the deep dive I would love to have you in this space.

I’m in California for the Franciscan School of Theology graduation. This is my first graduation as a member of the board of regents and it’s been amazing. Watching the graduates with their families today was so special. Three times today the saying “love one another” has come up

First in one of the graduation speeches
Second in a conversation during the reception
Lastly, as I got on the freeway to leave Oceanside to drive back to San Diego to prepare for my flight back to Arizona a gold Tesla truck with “Love on another” painted on the side and back pulls in front of me.

Such a simple message that I think we often forget.

Imagine a world where we approached things with love and kindness at all times what could be accomplished.
