On August 22nd, we were back at Sunshine Acres Children’s Home to celebrate with a pizza party for all the children who made posters for our Sun Smart Creators Poster Contest!

We also made more customized hats and sunglasses. The kids really loved our Spiderman patches!

On August 11, the Arizona Skin Cancer Foundation performed preventive skin checks for 50 city employees in Buckeye. All of the employees went home with a customized hat and swag bag.

A tan is a visible sign of sun damage. Whether the tan is naturally produced by the sun or artificially produced by a tanning bed, the result is the same: an increased risk of skin cancer and premature aging of the skin.

Choose good health over a tan! Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen and other forms of sun protection.

Volunteer of the Summer!

Thank you, Dawson Carroll, for volunteering with the Arizona Skin Cancer Foundation at TEN events so far in 2026!

Thank you for bringing positivity, a willingness to help, and a caring attitude to our screenings and sun safety events.

So far this year, you have helped us to provide sun safety to over 1,300 children and adults, as well as screenings to almost 100 adults with blindness and other physical disabilities.

Dawson is a MS2 enrolled in Midwestern University's Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale.

Sunscreen does not cause cancer.

The opposite is true! Sunscreen protects the skin from the sun's harmful UV rays, which can cause premature aging and disease, including skin cancer.

On July 22, we made cute hats with the afterschool class at A New Leaf. Now our scalp, eyes, and ears will be more protected from the hot Arizona sun!

So far this year, we’ve made hats, sunglasses, bracelets, and sun safety posters with our friends at A New Leaf.

What's next? Vote in the comments below to help us choose our next sun safety activity.

1. A lesson about how animals in the wild protect themselves from the sun
2. Customized cooling bandanas
3. Play Sun Safety Bingo (it could get rowdy!).
