You know that pesky cough that lasts after you get a cold? This home therapy is a wonderful support to help kick that cough out and it’s even better when you start early to relieve sinus congestion.
Steam inhalation using select essential oils can help break up mucus in the sinuses, throat, and lungs and provide additional antimicrobial support.
Directions:
1️⃣ Boil water and fill a large glass bowl halfway and add 2 drops of each essential oil
2️⃣ Place your head about 12 inches (30 cm) above the bowl and cover your head with a towel in such a way that the sides are totally closed and you form a tent over the bowl.
3️⃣ Keep your eyes shut and breathe deeply through your nose for 10-15 minutes.
4️⃣ If necessary, raise the towel so that fresh air is brought into the area and breathe through your mouth a couple of times and then resume the treatment. Should you at any time feel uncomfortable discontinue the treatment.
Oils I use:
🌱Eucalyptus oil: has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties and promotes drainage of congested sinuses.
🌱Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca): provide antimicrobial properties making it great for upper respiratory infections.
🌱Rosemary oil (Rosmarinus): has antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects.
🌱Peppermint oil (Mentha Piperita): decreases pain, decongests, and has a cooling effect soothing irritated mucus passageways.
🌱Lavender oil (Lavandula): spasmolytic so relaxes muscles and I just love the smell so like adding it into the mix.
🌱Thyme oil is also really great for coughs!
