Recovery Is Possible, and No One Walks It Alone

This September, National Recovery Month reminds us that addiction isn't a moral failing. It's a health condition that's common, treatable, and deeply human.

And it rarely stands alone. Substance use and mental health are often tangled together, which is why real recovery treats both, not just one. Recovery isn't always a straight line, but a setback is never the end of the story.

If you or someone you love is struggling, you don't have to figure it out alone.

Proud to Sponsor SWEDEC 2026

SMHWI, serving the Tempe, Scottsdale, and Glendale communities, is honored to sponsor the Second Annual Southwest Regional Eating Disorder Professional Conference, presented by the Southwest Eating Disorder Education Collaborative (SWEDEC).

This year's theme, Complexity, Collaboration, and Current Realities of Eating Disorder Care, brings clinicians together for two days of learning and connection, with 12 CE credits available (APA, ASWB, CDR, NBCC).

Supporting this event reflects something we care deeply about: strengthening the network of professionals working to make quality mental health care more accessible across the Southwest. Great care happens through collaboration, and we're grateful to stand alongside the clinicians advancing this work.

If you're attending, we'd love to connect.

Join us in person September 25th and 26th at Embassy Suites in Phoenix, AZ. Register at https://www.tickettailor.com/events/swedec/2170696.

Take a Breath. This One's for You.

Here's something you can do right now, wherever you are. Breathe in slowly for four counts, hold for four, and breathe out for four. Do that three times, and notice how your shoulders drop just a little.

Mindfulness doesn't require an hour of free time, a silent room, or a perfect setting. It's simply the practice of coming back to yourself for a moment, and it's something you can return to anytime the day starts to feel like too much.

Save this for when you need it. And for more support, Synergy: Mental Health & Wellness Integrated is here at https://smhwi.com/become-a-patient-portal/

You Don't Have to Heal Alone

There's a quiet kind of relief that comes from realizing you're not the only one. In group therapy, people discover that their struggles are shared, their feelings make sense, and they're surrounded by others who truly understand.

Walking into that first session can feel intimidating, but connection is often the very thing that helps us move forward. Being seen and heard by people who get it can be surprisingly powerful, and the weight you've been carrying feels a little lighter when it's shared.

What Helps You Unwind?

It's National Relaxation Day, and we're curious: what actually helps you slow down? A walk around the block, a favorite playlist, ten quiet minutes with a cup of coffee before the day begins?

Rest isn't a reward you have to earn or a luxury for when everything else is finished. It's a real part of staying well, and even small moments of calm add up over time. So take a breath today, and give yourself full permission to pause.

Share your favorite way to relax in the comments. And when you're ready for deeper support

Running on Empty?

Exhaustion has a way of feeling normal. Long shifts, back-to-back deadlines, a busy season that never quite ends, and you start to believe everyone feels this way.

But there's a real difference between a hard week and running on empty for months. Burnout is more than being tired. It can show up as dreading the workday, feeling detached from the people around you, trouble concentrating, or exhaustion that a weekend off just doesn't fix.

Here's the question worth asking: are you recovering from stress, or are you no longer able to recover from it?

Burnout can also look a lot like anxiety or depression, and telling them apart is the first step toward feeling like yourself again. You don't have to figure it out alone.

Sometimes the Bravest Thing Is Asking for Help

As a new school year begins, a lot of kids and teens are quietly carrying more than they let on. New pressures, social stress, and big changes can weigh heavily, and the signs aren't always obvious.

Shifts in sleep, mood, or appetite, or a loss of interest in the things they used to love, can all be signals worth paying attention to. The encouraging news is that early support makes a genuine difference, and teaching a young person that it's okay to ask for help is one of the greatest gifts you can give.

If your family could use support, we're here. Reach out to Synergy: Mental Health & Wellness Integrated at https://smhwi.com/become-a-patient-portal/

Happy International Self Care Day!

A day to pause and recognize that taking care of yourself is not optional, it is part of staying well. Today is a day to remind ourselves that rest, boundaries, and asking for help are forms of care, not signs of weakness.

Self care looks different for everyone. For some it is sleep, movement, or time outside. For others it is therapy, medication, or simply saying no to something that does not serve them.

None of these are small. They are the daily choices that support mental health over time.

At Synergy: Mental Health & Wellness Integrated, we see self care and professional care as partners, not substitutes for each other. One supports the other.

However you care for yourself today, let it count.
