For years, I've advocated for protecting children online before harm occurs, not just responding after it's too late.

Today, I'm incredibly proud to share the official introduction of REGO Guardian's Global Solution, a new approach to protecting children across AI, social media, gaming, and other digital platforms.

As Head of Product for REGO Guardian, I've had the opportunity to help shape technology that addresses something I've advocated for throughout my career: giving parents a meaningful role in their children's digital lives without sacrificing their privacy.

By combining verified parental authority, AI-powered safety intelligence, and privacy-preserving technology, we're building a foundation designed to recognize potential threats earlier and give families greater control.

Parents shouldn't have to choose between protecting their children and protecting their privacy.

Protecting children online should not depend on which country they live in.

Mexico is taking an important step toward holding digital platforms accountable, announcing new requirements to protect minors from violent and sexual content, with companies given just 30 days to comply.

I'm encouraged to see governments worldwide recognize that children's online safety can no longer be optional.

But legislation is only part of the solution.

Child safety and privacy should never compete.

I've spent years advocating for prevention over intervention. We need to stop reacting to harm and start building a digital world that protects children from the start.

“Nothing good happens on a screen behind a closed door when you're a kid.”

I say this often because one of the biggest warning signs that a child may be struggling is withdrawal. Spending more time alone, losing interest in activities they once loved, or pulling away from friends can all be signs that something isn't right.

But protecting children starts long before those warning signs appear.

I recently had the opportunity to talk about something very personal to me: the power of one.

Growing up, I experienced homelessness, food insecurity, and significant challenges at home. A second-grade teacher noticed I was struggling, asked questions, and stepped in. That one person changed the course of my life.

It's a reminder that we don't have to wait for legislation, litigation, or sweeping changes to make a difference in a child's life. Sometimes it starts with simply paying attention.

Next Thursday, October 15, I'll be joining Life Resources in Charleston, SC, to continue this important conversation. I'll also share more about a global solution we're bringing to market to help parents regain control in today's digital world.
Because protecting children takes a village, and every one of us has a role to play.

Knowing a child is a child shouldn't require knowing everything about that child.

As age assurance becomes a bigger part of online safety, privacy has to remain part of the conversation.

We can verify what's necessary to protect children without collecting or exposing more personal information than necessary.

Child safety and privacy shouldn't compete. We need to design for both.

What troubles me most about this exchange isn't disagreement. It's how lightly the impact on children and families appears to be treated.

When we're talking about youth mental health, exploitation, addictive design, and the experiences of families who have watched their children struggle, these concerns deserve to be taken seriously.

Accountability isn't about being anti-technology or anti-social media. It's about acknowledging that the products we build have real-world consequences, especially for developing minds.

Parents have been raising these concerns for years. Researchers, educators, mental health professionals, and young people themselves have been raising them too.

They deserve more than a laugh.

They deserve to be heard.

Child safety and privacy should never be an either/or decision.

The Meta settlement includes important protections for teens, but EFF raises important concerns about what some of those protections could require in return: more age estimation, more monitoring, and more collection of information about young users.

We absolutely need to know when a child is entering an online environment. But we should be building systems that verify only what's necessary, without creating even larger stores of children's personal data.

The goal isn't simply more oversight. It's safer digital experiences that preserve children's privacy from the start.

For years, parents have been expected to manage their children's online lives without being given the tools or authority to truly do it.

Meta's new settlement changes that conversation by putting greater emphasis on parental involvement, including protective defaults that teens generally can't change without a supervising parent.

This is an important shift.

Parents shouldn't be an afterthought in children's digital experiences. They should be part of the trust and authorization process from the beginning.

Protecting children online means giving parents a meaningful role while still respecting children's privacy.

Protecting children online also means protecting their personal data.

Brazil's action against TikTok sends an important message: platforms have a responsibility to know when children are using their services, limit the data they collect, and provide meaningful parental involvement.

Children shouldn't have to surrender their privacy to participate in the digital world.
We need systems designed to protect both their safety and their identity from the start.

Protecting our children's mental health can't begin only after something goes wrong.

It starts with understanding the world they're growing up in, recognizing the warning signs, staying connected, and giving them the tools to navigate both their online and offline lives safely and confidently.

Every day Congress delays meaningful child online safety protections is another day families are left navigating risks on their own.

Protecting children online should never be a partisan issue or a battle between lawmakers and industry. It should be a shared commitment to putting children's well-being first.

Laws matter. Accountability matters. But our focus must always remain on the children we're trying to protect.
