If we have been quiet recently here, it is because we have been spending time with the people who mean the most to us. ❤️

Our father, Salvatore Mattera, passed today after his battle with Mesothelioma.

We know that he actually won this battle because he is now living in peace with our Heavenly Father.

If there was anything that we learned from our father it was the importance of faith and family.

Two of the most important things that one can have in their lives.

He will be greatly missed and will always be loved. ❤️🙏

As a pharmacist I’m sharing these 3 supplements that I always fall back on that never go out of style.”

As a 61 year old pharmacist, I am all about healthy aging from the inside out!

These supplements never go out of style!

✨Omega 3 Fatty Acids -a top pick for me this multi tasking supplement is great for beautiful glowing skin, heart health, cognitive health , mood and immunity … all so very important in menopause.

✨ A probiotic - A healthy gut is a healthy body! Gut health truly is the basis for optimal health to reduce bloating, improve immunity and even beautiful healthy skin!

✨Magnesium- so important for cellular function to help with relaxation and also keep things ‘moving’ . If you can’t sleep at night, I highly recommend!

Be sure to check with a medical professional before starting any supplement routine! This post is informational only and not medical advice!

1 in 8 women.
Two women in my family.
This is why breast cancer prevention matters to me. 💗

National Breast Cancer Research Day | 8.18

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. 💗

That’s why August 18 , National Breast Cancer Research Day, carries such a meaningful message.

Breast cancer awareness shouldn’t begin and end with thinking pink in October.

This is personal for me. My mom and my sister are both breast cancer survivors, so when someone recently told me, “You take breast cancer prevention very seriously,” my answer was simple:

I do.

We can’t control every breast cancer risk factor. Genetics, age, breast density, reproductive history and other factors can all play a role.

But there ARE things we can do to support our overall health and potentially lower risk:

💗 Limit alcohol. Even relatively small amounts are associated with increased breast cancer risk.

💗 Move your body. Regular physical activity is associated with a lower risk of breast cancer by allowing muscles to release special bio molecules that can help with prevention and help with healthy weight management.

💗 Build your meals around plants and fiber-rich foods including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds. A healthy gut helps keep things ‘moving’ and helps to remove excess circulating estrogen.

💗 Know your personal risk. Family history matters. Talk with your healthcare provider about when you should begin mammograms and whether additional screening or genetic counseling makes sense for you.

If you are in menopause, have an individualized conversation with your healthcare provider about your personal benefits and risks rather than making decisions out of fear. That’s what I did for myself.

Research continues to give women better information, better screening and better treatment options and THAT is why a day devoted to breast cancer research matters. 💗

Share this with someone who would like to see this too. 💖

If you were my patient at the pharmacy, this is what I would tell you … about what over 50% of women will never discuss with their doctor?

Overactive bladder ( OAB) is defined by 8 or more trips to the bathroom to urinate daily and two or more times per night ( Nocturia).

Pelvic focused exercises ( including kegels and pelvic floor physical therapy) and avoiding certain foods are helpful (foods such as acidic foods, spicy foods, caffeine and alcohol and many bladder resources)! Check out Prelief to help reduce acid in foods.

✨Symptoms can be caused by a decrease in estrogen in menopause and perimenopause.

Ask your doctor if Vaginal Estrogen is right for you.

Here are supplements to try that can be helpful as well:
⭐️Supplements to strengthen the pelvic floor which can improve OAB symptoms:
✨Vitamin D - many women with a weak pelvic floor are found to be deficient in Vitamin D
✨Collagen- collagen can not only improve skin, nails, bones and more but can help to strengthen the pelvic floor too! Biosil helps your body create collagen and Designs for Sport® grass fed beef protein is naturally high in collagen.
✨Raspberry Leaf Tea- can be helpful in toning the pelvic floor

⭐️ A supplement for overactive bladder:
✨Pumpkin Seed extract AZO Products is often included in many supplements for overactive bladder.

This post is informational only and not medical advice. Please contact a medical professional before starting any supplement or if you are looking for resources for OAB. Be sure to pass this along to someone who may want to see this too!

Women’s health is not a contest.

I recently saw a post on Threads with a woman asking to share if you had delivered your babies without an epidural.

Many women shared their response. Many women shared that this post made them feel less than because they had a medicated child birth.

✨Medicated childbirth vs unmedicated
✨Estrogen therapy vs choosing a more natural approach
✨Breastfeeding vs formula feeding

I have experienced this feeling too with women questioning my decision to use HRT with a family history of breast cancer.

Also the decision to bottle feed my youngest. I was STRONGLY questioned by a group of baseball moms. At the time I had my oldest heading into high school and both of my older boys playing travel baseball. I knew as a busy mom of young teens I didn’t have the flexibility to nurse when needed.

The point is I shouldn’t need to explain my decisions. Both decisions were thoughtfully made with careful consideration of what was right for each situation .

There is no prize for doing it “the right way.”

Every woman deserves to make informed decisions about her own body and choose what is best for her , without judgment, comparison, or shame.

We have different choices but our goal is the same to feel healthy and empowered.

I would love to hear your thoughts here!

This isn’t our mother’s menopause!

If your mom was going through menopause 30 years ago, this is what I was dispensing at the pharmacy.

Do you remember your mother taking any of these medications?

I love seeing the direction pharmacy is moving, one thing I know for sure what works for one lady may not work for another.

Listen to your body and do what is right for YOU!

Time for a little Midlife Multiple Choice : Vacation Edition

Which Sounds the Most Like You?

Choose the one A, B, C or D that sounds the most like you when spontaneously deciding to leave town for the weekend. 😉🥰

✨ A. Packing way too many outfits for a 2-day trip because apparently you still haven’t learned and feel you need options

✨ B. Yes to the late dinner, even though you normally eat at 5:00 at home and are going to be thrown way off.

✨ C. Bringing the Forever Loved Pet Sanctuary | AZ Senior Dog Rescue🐾 rescue pups because you know they don’t want to leave your side and you don’t want to leave theirs either! 🐶💖

✨ D. Midlife Mindset Shift you don’t need a reason, a milestone, or anyone’s permission to experience joy. It’s yours for the taking!

We thoroughly enjoyed a VERY spur of the moment trip to Tucson Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa touring the city and reminiscing on where we started out as newlyweds 40 years ago! I’m usually a planner but liking this more carefree version of me. 😉🥰
