Alivia Acupuncture Clinic Scottsdale Acupuncture Clinic and Holistic Medicine,
Our mission is to make people's lives healthier. Prevention is the key to success.

The name of the Clinic “Alivia” comes from the Spanish language: to heal, to sooth, to ease, to get better; and that is our moto, to make people’s lives better. Alivia Acupuncture Clinic is a holistic clinic that considers the person as a whole (body, mind and spirit) whose quest is optimal health and wellness. Imbalances in our physical, emotional or spiritual parts can impact negatively our overall health. In Alivia Acupuncture Clinic we look for potential factors that can cause imbalances such as: medical problems, poor diet, unhealthy sleep habits and stress and we treat the root of the issue with the aim of achieving wellness. We believe that by educating our patients it empowers them to participate in their own path to health. Better diet, sleep habits, regular exercise, and stress reduction techniques have a synergistic effect with acupuncture leading to a healthier life. Alivia Acupuncture Clinic encompasses a comprehensive list of techniques such as moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, electro acupuncture and Chinese nutritional counselling making them available to help you on this journey. We specialize in the treatment of chronic and acute conditions such as pain, infertility, woman’s health, stress relief, anxiety, insomnia, skin, joint and respiratory problems, in addition to others (to see what acupuncture can treat go to FAQ).

This weekend, I had the honor of speaking at “More Than Skin Deep: Inner Beauty Shining Out”, symposium.
The experience reminded me of a few things:

1 Growth means stepping outside my comfort zone. I’m an introvert, and public speaking frightens me, but I did it! It wasn’t perfect, but I showed up, shared what I love, and I’m celebrating myself for that.

2 Holistic care is my passion. I love helping people feel better by caring for the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. To me, we are more than our physical bodies, and that connection deserves attention and care.
3 Good friends are priceless, and mine are the best. Thank you, Geraldine, Sasha, Karyn Iden Hendricksen, Patricia Vera Cantú, Kim Earnhart Miller, and Karyn Elise Wellness, for being there and for your love and support. It meant so much to me. Thank you Esther Allouche for the invitation.

Knotty and painful Calves?

Ever wonder why an athlete’s tight calves just won’t budge with normal stretching?

In our clinic, we combine the best of both worlds, Orthopedic Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), to treat chronic lower leg tightness.

When an athlete sprints, jumps, or cuts, their calves absorb massive force. This leads to neuromuscular lockdown and stagnant energy flow (Qi and Blood stagnation), leaving them with chronic tightness and a high injury risk.
How our dual approach works:

• 🎯 The Orthopedic Side: We target deep neuromuscular trigger points in the gastrocnemius and soleus, triggering a twitch response that forces hyperactive fibers to instantly relax.

• ☯️ The TCM Side: We tap into specific meridians to clear stagnation, move the Blood, and nourish the sinews (tendons/muscles) to promote systemic healing.

The result? Immediate mobility gains and long-term tissue resilience.

Acupuncture is never one-size-fits-all.

This patient has PCOS and also experiences constipation. Her treatment is individualized based on her specific symptoms, overall health, and treatment goals, not simply a diagnosis. We always take a whole-person approach, looking beyond the symptoms to address underlying patterns.

Today’s treatment focused on digestive symptoms and concerns related to PCOS, using acupuncture, electroacupuncture, moxibustion, and infrared light.

An amazing combination of therapies in one individualized treatment. ✨

Huge win for acupuncturists — but most importantly, for patients!

A large NIH-funded study, published in the prestigious JAMA Network Open, found that acupuncture was more effective than standard medical care alone for relieving pain and improving function in adults 65 and older with chronic low back pain, and without the side effects of medications.

And the cherry on top, the article states that acupuncture may become a first-line therapy for this condition.

I never doubted this day would come, it was only a matter of time before research caught up with what we see in the clinic every day.

This randomized clinical trial assesses the effectiveness of acupuncture needling (both a standard course and additional maintenance sessions) for older adults with chronic low back pain.

It was an honor to treat with acupuncture so many patients suffering from eczema and other conditions at the Eczema EXPO 2025 this weekend.

Dr. Karla Sourasky Olmos and Dr. Yeon Hee Park of Asian Medicine and Acupuncturists of Arizona (AMAAZ) spent the weekend giving acupuncture demonstrations at the National Eczema Association Expo in Scottsdale, Arizona, while ASA Chair Olivia Hsu Friedman presented sessions on acupuncture and herbal medicine.

With 500+ attende able to try and learn the benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the event was a huge success! Since most attendees traveled from out of state, the doctors provided an ASA QR code, directing them to “Find an Acupuncturist” in their local area.

Acupressure for Low Back Pain: 5 Points for Relief -

Honestly, I don’t have to think about it much—my answer is always low back pain. There isn’t a day that goes by without someone walking into my clinic seeking relief for back pain.
