“Did you know mental health conditions and substance use are often interrelated? For example, 37.9 million people who are managing a substance use disorder also have a mental health condition. Sometimes, a person with a mental health condition starts substance use as a way of self-medication. Other times, the substance causes or contributes to a mental health condition.

Many substances can cause paranoia. Paranoia is a mental health condition where a person believes they are being threatened in some way.”

There are many substances that can impact your mental health and even cause paranoia. Learn more about them in our blog post.

Paranoia is a symptom of many substances. Luckily, substance use and paranoia can be treated and you can achieve recovery and wellness!

A co-occurring disorder is when a person is managing both a mental health concern and a substance use disorder. Many times people with untreated mental health might turn to substance use to self-medicate. Other times, substance use can lead to negative side effects that can cause mental illness. How can you know, though, if you have a co-occurring disorder?

- You feel overwhelmed or lost without your substance of choice
- The after-effects of your substance use cause you to feel lonely, worthless, anxious, etc
- The world seems pointless or dreary
- You can’t stop taking substances even if you want to, and stopping greatly impacts your mind and happiness

If you’re feeling any of these symptoms or more, you might have a co-occurring disorder. Don’t worry, though, there is hope and help out there to get you back to the place you want to be.

Rehab facilities that do not treat co-occurring disorders oftentimes leave serious issues unaddressed and untreated, which is one of the leading causes of the higher relapse rates at these facilities. We at Pinnacle Peak Recovery understand this and work hard to be the best facility for your specialized needs, serving clients in the areas of Scottsdale, Phoenix, Tuscon, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, and nationwide visitors.

This month is Mental Health Awareness Month! We thought we’d kick it off by sharing some of our favorite self-help tips and tricks, and we hope to hear some of yours as well in the comments!

- Plan time for yourself. Put it down on your calendar! Sometimes scheduling the time can make sure you actually take it because we all need breaks.
- Reward yourself when you accomplish your goals. There’s a reason kids love getting stickers when they do well, there’s no shame in rewarding yourself as an adult too. Stickers included!
- Find a hobby you enjoy and spend time on it. This can not only help you destress and relax, but many hobbies can help you make friends too.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Sometimes it can feel like we’re alone, or we’re the only person who can handle whatever is happening to us. Ask for help! People around you love you and want to be there for you, even if it’s in small ways.

What’re some of your favorite tricks for self-help?

“Psychosis is always triggered by something else, rather than being a condition in and of itself. In this case, it’s being triggered by co***ne consumption. Co***ne impacts and alters the dopamine receptors in our brains. Excessive dopamine levels are theorized to be one of the triggers for psychosis.

So what is psychosis? To put it simply, it’s when a person perceives reality in a way that differs from those around them.”

Experiencing psychosis, or seeing a loved one experience it, can be scary. Knowing what’s happening and ways to prevent it can help you avoid experiencing it in the future. Learn more about co***ne psychosis in today’s blog post.

What is co***ne psychosis? Is it something that can be avoided or recovered from? Let’s dive in to find out.
