Achilles Tendon Rupture:

Explanation:
The Thompson test is performed by squeezing the calf with the patient prone and the foot hanging freely. Normally, calf compression produces plantarflexion. Absent or markedly decreased plantarflexion indicates disruption of the Achilles tendon.

🔥 Your ankle healed...

…but it STILL feels like it’s going to roll again.

You walk normally.

Then one uneven step happens...

And suddenly your ankle feels unstable.

One structure commonly injured during a lateral ankle sprain is the **anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL)**.

The ATFL is one of the major ligaments supporting the outside of the ankle.

After a significant sprain, the ligament and surrounding tissues may need time and progressive rehabilitation to regain their previous capacity.

Possible signs of persistent ankle instability include:

⚠️ Repeated ankle rolling

⚠️ Feeling unstable on uneven ground

⚠️ Difficulty with cutting or changing direction

⚠️ Reduced confidence during sports

⚠️ Recurrent swelling or discomfort

But an important point:

Not every ankle sprain causes chronic instability.

And persistent symptoms aren’t always caused by the ATFL alone.

Other ligaments, tendons, cartilage, fractures, nerve irritation, and reduced balance or proprioception can contribute.

Progressive strengthening and balance training are commonly important parts of ankle rehabilitation.

🦶 WHY DOES YOUR HEEL BURN AFTER YOU'VE BEEN STANDING ALL DAY?

You've been on your feet for hours...

Then you finally sit down.

That's when you notice it—

A deep burning sensation under your heel.

You take your shoes off...

But the discomfort is still there.

Most people blame hard floors.

But one structure underneath your heel absorbs a huge amount of repetitive impact every day.

🦴 THE ANATOMY

The structure involved is the **Heel Fat Pad**.

This specialized layer of fatty tissue sits beneath the calcaneus and acts as a natural shock absorber during standing, walking, and running.

⚙️ THE BIOMECHANICS

With every step:

1️⃣ your heel contacts the ground

2️⃣ the fat pad compresses to absorb impact

3️⃣ prolonged standing or repetitive loading can increase stress on the heel tissues and contribute to localized heel pain

Unlike plantar fascia pain, fat-pad-related pain is typically felt more directly underneath the center of the heel.

⚠️ WHEN TO PAY ATTENTION

Persistent heel pain, significant tenderness, swelling, or difficulty standing and walking should be evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional.

💡 THE TAKEAWAY

Your heel has its own built-in shock absorber...

And when that cushion is overloaded, every step can start to hurt.

🔥 Does your heel hurt the MOST with your first steps in the morning?

You get out of bed...

Take those first few steps...

And suddenly the bottom of your heel hurts.

One common cause of this pattern is **plantar fasciitis**.

The plantar fascia is a strong band of connective tissue running along the underside of the foot.

It helps support the foot's arch and experiences substantial loading during walking and running.

When the tissue becomes painful, symptoms often concentrate near its attachment to the heel.

Common features can include:

⚠️ Pain with the first steps after waking

⚠️ Pain after sitting or resting

⚠️ Heel pain during walking

⚠️ Symptoms that change as you move around

⚠️ Pain after increased activity

And here's something important:

A heel spur seen on an X-ray does NOT automatically mean it's the source of the pain.

Other conditions—including nerve irritation, Achilles problems, stress injuries, fat-pad disorders, and other causes of heel pain—can produce similar symptoms.

Persistent, severe, or worsening heel pain should be evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional.
