When people think about chiropractic, they think we’re just feeling your spine. But our hands are trained to listen to something much deeper... Your breath.
Because breathing is much more than simply bringing oxygen into your lungs.
It’s a window into how your nerve system is organizing your body.
When your nerve system perceives a threat, your breathing immediately shifts. It becomes shallow, faster, restricted, or interrupted.
Your diaphragm changes how it moves. Your rib cage may become less mobile. Muscles around your neck, shoulders, and abdomen may tighten into patterns of protection.
And sometimes, these patterns become so familiar that you don’t even notice them.
So when we place our hands on your body, we’re paying attention to much more than your spine.
We’re sensing:
Does your breath move freely through your rib cage and abdomen, or does it feel restricted?
Is there a natural rhythm between your inhale and exhale?
Are there moments when your breath pauses or your body subtly braces?
Does your body remain guarded, or does it gradually drop in and soften.
Because your breathing, muscle tone, and nerve system are constantly communicating with one another. If your breath changes, we know your nerve system state has changed too. 🙏🏼
