Ann S. Burke, 80, a resident of Scranton, died Tuesday evening in Abington Manor. She was the widow of Michael Burke who died in 2000, and the couple were married for 47 years. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Sr. and Mary Gannon Simrell. She was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish and was a graduate of South Scranton Central Catholic High School. She was employed for 14 years by Dr. Stanley Goldberg as a dental assistant and then as a paraprofessional for 10 years by the Scranton School District. She was a member of Scranton Federation of Teachers and a local ornithology club. Ann was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who will be deeply missed.
Surviving are two daughters; Marirose Burke McDermott, Scranton, and Denise Warnero, Northport, FL., two brothers Joseph Simrell and wife Joan Ann and Jerry Simrell and wife Cathy, all of Scranton, a brother-in-law William Williams, Allentown, 7 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by brothers Thomas Simrell and wife Helen, John Simrell and wife Patricia, and Francis Simrell and wife Mary Ann, and a sister Mary Ann Williams.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 AM in St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., by Rev. Jonathan Kuhar, Pastor. Inurnment private at convenience of the family. Friends may call Wednesday morning at the church from 9 to 10 AM.
