Hello September! The Marywood Heights employee engagement committee is excited to announce Samantha Franklin, Marywood Heights Business Office Manager, as our September Employee of the Month! Samantha joined us this past February and since then has played a critical role in keeping the facility financially organized, compliant and running smoothly. She is a 2020 graduate of Lackawanna College and holds an associate’s in business administration. Sam is dependable, dedicated and consistently completes her responsibilities both timely and accurately. Sam’s favorite part about working for Marywood Heights is the community atmosphere where everyone is always willing to lend a hand in working hard to help the residents and their families. Although her contributions happen mostly behind the scenes, Sam has had a significant impact on the overall success of the facility. Sam’s long-term goal is to continue pursuing her education. Fun fact about Sam; she is the oldest of three girls, one being a twin and her younger sister. When not working, Sam enjoys being outdoors or around the campfire making memories with her best friend and three children. When asked what advice she would give to a new employee, Sam said, “don’t be afraid to ask questions." Sam truly demonstrates the teamwork, accountability and dedication that shows she is more than deserving of this recognition. Thanks so much Sam, for all you do!

Welcome August! This month we are so pleased to announce Lisa Blaker, Marywood
Height’s Certified Activities Director, as our August Employee of the Month! Lisa started
out as a member of the housekeeping team, and has been working at our facility for 40
years! Her love for the elderly made her quickly realize that the activity department was
where she wanted to transition her career. “The elderly have so much valuable
knowledge and wisdom – they are happy to share." Lisa became an activities assistant
and went on to become a Certified Activities Director.
Lisa is a graduate of Luzerne County Community College, a member of the NCCAP and
is currently working towards her Dementia certification. Lisa says that working at
Marywood Heights has given her the opportunity to meet so many fabulous people. She
enjoys working with her current co-workers and keeping in touch with the people she
began her career with in 1986!
Fun fact about Lisa – she met her husband at Marywood Heights and they have been
happily married since 2008. Lisa has two grandchildren that she loves dearly, as well as
a great love for animals, especially her French bulldog Bruce and her Boston Terrier
Stella.
Lisa is looking forward to retirement where her goal is for her and her husband to spend
time as snowbirds in South Carolina. She also plans on volunteering at the facility when
she can and wants to continue her passion of bringing joy to the elderly. Lisa is most
proud of her ability to make others happy; to help them enjoy their golden years by
showing them they can enjoy life at any age.
Lisa’s advise for someone new to this field? Be patient and kind to others. A smile costs
nothing to give, but can mean everything to the recipient. It lifts spirits, spreads kindness
and makes everyone feel a little better. Lisa, such beautiful words to live by! Thank you,
Lisa, for all you do each and every day!

This month, we are so happy to congratulate Stacie Vojick as our July Employee of the Month! Stacie is a CNA who has been with us since May of 2023. She has been caring for people since she was 19 years old. Stacie’s proudest accomplishment is having her children and making sure they went on to graduate college. What is Stacie’s favorite part of working for Marywood Heights? The residents, of course, by providing them with care, safety and comfort. She also enjoys being around her co-workers and feels they really are the best! Stacie loves going to Myrtle Beach and is beginning to wind down as she is looking forward to retirement. Throughout her career, Stacie is most proud of all the respect she’s been given by her co-workers, residents and employers. When asked what advice she would give someone brand new, just starting out, she believes that there needs to be empathy given to the residents, as they were once working, just like all of us. Wonderful words from an equally wonderful addition to the Marywood Heights team. Thank you Stacie for all you do every day!

This month, we are pleased to congratulate Kevin Martinell as our June Employee of the Month. Kevin is
our Activities Assistant and is currently celebrating his 6th year! Kevin earned his BFA from Marywood
University in 2000. Kevin’s faith plays an important role in his life; in elementary school he was a six-time
first prize winner of the “Keep Christ in Christmas” poster contest through the Diocese of Rockville
Centre, NY. He was also an alter server during much of his school years and is currently an usher on his
weekends off from work at Saint Veronica Catholic Church in Greentown, PA. In Kevin’s spare time, he
enjoys eating out at different restaurants and diners, posting about his outings on social media. When
with his family and girlfriend, Kevin enjoys watching both “Family Feud” and “Press Your Luck”
gameshows. When asked what Kevin’s favorite part of working at Marywood Heights, he said “putting a
smile on the resident’s faces and being a team player with the employees." Kevin’s advice for a new
employee would be to never give up; there will always be good days ahead and not to be afraid to ask
questions as there is always something to be thankful for. His goals for the future are to be a friend to
whomever needs one, be supportive of others, lend an ear to those who need someone to listen to
them and meet the client’s needs to the best of his ability. Kevin is most proud of his ability to make
others happy. Kevin, we’re so happy to have you as part of our team; thank you for all you do!

Sunshine, fresh air, and a little dirt under our fingernails
Our residents enjoyed a beautiful day outside getting their hands busy in the garden! From planting tomatoes to sharing smiles and stories, it was the perfect way to enjoy the warm weather together. Gardening brings so much joy, relaxation, and beauty to our home — and today was blooming with happiness! 🌼🪴

We had some very special visitors stop by today… BABY GOATS! 🐐💛
Our residents absolutely loved spending time cuddling, petting, and laughing with these adorable little guests. Their playful personalities brought so many smiles and filled our home with joy, laughter, and sweet memories.
A huge thank you Ashley from Buttin Head Farms and to everyone who helped make this fun visit possible. Days like today remind us that the smallest visitors can make the biggest impact! 🥰
