I wish more people knew that a negative cystoscopy doesn't always mean you're fine. πŸ’œ

It took me 3 years of unnecessary medications and invasive treatments before anyone believed me. They even implanted a neurostimulator in my lumbar spine to stop my bladder spasms. The real problem was that my bladder was trying to push out an endometrioma growing inside it.

Nothing was done until it broke through the bladder dome wall and finally showed up on a cystoscopy. By then I had no choice but surgery: my first partial cystectomy. Two years later I needed a second one, because endometriosis kept attacking the same spot.

If your cystoscopy came back negative but you still have pain, trouble emptying your bladder, or that hot-knife stabbing feeling, keep advocating for yourself. Ask about further testing like an MRI.

Urologists, it's time to rethink the protocol.

πŸ‘‡ Has a doctor ever told you "your tests are normal" when you KNEW something was wrong? Drop a πŸ™‹πŸ½β€β™€οΈ if yes.

I wish more people knew that a normal cystoscopy does NOT rule out bladder endometriosis. 🩺

Cystoscopy only shows the inside lining of the bladder. Endometriosis often starts on the outside of the bladder wall and works its way in, so unless it's broken all the way through, the camera can miss it completely.

That's exactly what happened to me. Normal scope. Then another normal scope. Meanwhile I was in so much pain I could barely function. I waited almost FOUR YEARS before I finally got my first partial hysterectomy, because "normal" on paper kept outweighing what my body was screaming.

25+ years in clinical medicine and I still had to fight to be believed. Imagine the patients who don't have the language to push back.

Urologists, we need a better pathway. When the scope is clean but the symptoms don't add up, that shouldn't be the end of the workup. Think imaging read by someone who knows endo, and referral to an endometriosis specialist. Stop sending us home.

If you've been told "everything looks fine" while you're living in pain, your pain is real and you deserve a second look. πŸ’›
