Today is National Assistive Technology Day 2026

Assistive technology is about far more than basic needs; it is the foundation for participation, independence, safety, and dignity. It is the difference between simply surviving and truly thriving.

As we work toward a more all-encompassing future, consider these three questions:
• Personal Tech: Have you explored the built-in accessibility features on your daily devices?
• The Workplace: Does your organization actively prioritize accessible technology for all employees?
• Community: Are your public events and digital spaces fully accessible to every participant?

Remember: Assistive Technology. Everywhere. Everyone!

Image Description: A banner at the top reads: “NATIONAL AT AWARENESS DAY | APRIL 22 2026,” with the ATAP logo in the lower left corner. A smiling child with brown hair and a purple scarf around his neck in a wheelchair sits at the kitchen table, feeding himself with the Obi Feeder. At the bottom, bold text reads: “assistive technology. everywhere. everyone.”

Transition planning is intended to help students with disabilities get ready for life after high school. There is an upcoming listening session for students, families, and advocates on Aprill 22nd from 6:00-7:30pm. Your thoughts and experiences matter!

OSPI is seeking public input as part of the Transition Collaborative's Transition Services Learning Sessions.

Led by OSPI's Special Education Division, the Transition Collaborative is a group of agencies and councils working to improve transition planning and outcomes for students with disabilities. Transition services are the supports, instruction, and coordinated activities that help students with disabilities prepare for life after high school, including further education, work, independent living, and community participation.

The Transition Collaborative is seeking your recommendations to include in a report due to the Legislature in October 2026.

Listening sessions are being held in April with:

- Students, Families, and Advocates
- Educators

You can find out more about the Transition Collaborative, register for the appropriate listening session, and request needed accommodations or translations by visiting the Transition Collaborative Project website.
