Today's Featured Emerging Leader: McKenna Parnes

McKenna is a child clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington. Born in Long Beach, California, she spent her formative years navigating the coasts between Southern California and the New York City suburbs. This early exposure to diverse environments helped root her lifelong dedication to advocating for social, environmental, and racial justice. Her path in life was also profoundly shaped by her grandmother, a peace activist who lived by Mahatma Gandhi’s mantra: “Live simply so that others may simply live.” Childhood visits were often spent at peace rallies and anti-war documentary screenings, sparking a deep-seated interest in humanitarian activism. Today, McKenna is honored to deepen her understanding of the history of nuclear weapons and learn directly from the lived experiences of survivors. She is dedicated to evolving as a prominent voice in the movement for abolition, ensuring a safer world for younger and future generations.

Today's Featured Emerging Leader: Sean Liles

A Navy veteran who served aboard nuclear weapon carrying submarines deployed out of the Bangor-Trident Base in Kitsap County. Since leaving the military Sean moved to Tacoma, WA. He has been involved with About Face: Veterans Against the War and DSA, working against American Imperialism, while working as a peer support counselor. Sean recently participated in a direct action under the Washington DC Capital Rotunda that made national headlines.
