The fitness industry has done a great job convincing people that building real strength requires complicated programming, expensive equipment, and hours in the gym. It doesn’t.

Two to three full body sessions a week, two to four sets per major muscle group, eight to twelve reps. That is the foundation.

Done consistently over time, that simple framework will improve your muscle strength, your metabolic health, your bone density, and your ability to move through life with energy and resilience.

The barrier to building a stronger body is not access to a perfect program. It is the belief that what you can actually do is not enough to make a difference. It is.

No one is talking about this side of GLP-1s — and they should be. 👇

Less appetite doesn’t mean less responsibility around food. In fact, when you’re eating less, every bite matters MORE.

Swipe for what I wish more people knew before starting these medications: the fruit vs. vegetable mix-up that works against insulin resistance, why constipation on a GLP-1 is more than just uncomfortable, and the fat loss + detox connection that could explain why you feel foggy even when the scale is moving.

We’ve been told our best years are behind us. Our twenties. Our thirties. Before the wrinkles, before the hormonal shifts, before everything started to change. But what if it’s actually the beginning of your most powerful chapter?

What if the hormonal shift that feels like loss is actually your body giving you permission — finally — to stop performing for everyone else and start becoming fully, fearlessly yourself?

My latest post is a love letter to midlife — the community I’ve found here in Portugal, what it looks like to finally stop shrinking yourself to make others comfortable, the liberation that comes with finally putting down what was never yours to carry, and what other cultures have always known about this stage of life that Western culture gets completely wrong.

After a year as an immigrant in Portugal, I’ve gained something I didn’t expect: a much deeper understanding of what my clients face when life feels like too much at once.

Navigating perimenopause with ADHD while building a life in a new country — in a language I don’t yet speak — has been humbling in ways I didn’t anticipate. And I say this as someone who specializes in exactly these issues and is doing all the right things.

Doing everything right doesn’t mean it’s easy. But it does mean you’re not alone. The full post is on the blog here:

It’s tempting to go “all in” on making nutrition and fitness changes in hopes at achieving quick results. But more often than not, it’s just a recipe for burnout. This is why New Year’s resolutions are notoriously unsuccessful.

Most women already have a busy life and trying to change the way you eat and add in several workouts a week is only going to further deplete you. You may be able to stick to it short-term, but it will feel grueling and will create a negative mental association with nutrition and fitness.

After 12 years in practice I’ve found that helping my clients start small with easy shifts they can be consistent with is the key to lasting results.

I enjoyed an amazing hike on the Sintra coastline today with a group of amazing women from all over the world. It was a great way to celebrate 8 weeks since we arrived in Portugal and I’m still pinching myself that we actually live here!

After months of being in go mode, and several weeks of recovering after a grueling move, I’m just starting to feel human again.

I feel so fortunate to be here, but I do miss my loved ones and my beloved Seattle. Spending time in nature with like minded people is a balm for the soul. ❤️🇵🇹

Well, here we are in the 2024 holiday season. I know a lot of us aren’t in the most celebratory mood this year, but I think it’s important to take every opportunity to practice gratitude, embrace joy, and spend time with the ones we love. There is power in community and laughter so let’s lean into that!

We can also “vote with our wallets” whenever possible by choosing to buy gifts locally and from brands owned by women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Supporting small businesses is more important than ever, so for this year’s gift guide I’m paying tribute to my beloved city and showcasing local brands and shops. If you don’t live in Seattle, most of these retailers have online shops as well, but I encourage you to shop local wherever you are.

Read on to check out my suggestions for some of my favorite local brands and retailers*. Happy holidays!

*Other than being a patron, I am not affiliated with these businesses and I do not receive commissions from referrals.

I really struggled with what to write last week, so I decided to give myself some time and space to process my feelings and practice the self-care that I preach. This is a long one, so please bear with me and stick around for some helpful stuff at the end.

As a woman who has supported hundreds of other women, minorities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community through their health challenges, and as an auntie of 8 nieces, from a mixed race, mixed faith family, the last week has been heart wrenching for me.

For all of you who are feeling the gravity of this and facing an uncertain future, please know that you are seen and loved, and that I am standing with you!

Halloween is my favorite holiday and for many it holds happy memories from childhood and from watching kids enjoying the fun. But the aftermath is not so fun.

Sugar is very addictive and it weakens the immune system, increase symptoms of ADHD, and contributes to weight gain, brain fog and fatigue.

So what can you do now to avoid “over-treating?” Read my latest blog post (link in bio) for tips on enjoying a healthier Halloween.

Have a fun and safe holiday! 👻🎃💀🧙‍♀️
