Happy Juneteenth! Today, as we celebrate 161 years of freedom for Black communities, we want to also acknowledge the way that Black patients are mistreated and misdiagnosed by the modern healthcare system.

Black patients, especially Black women, are disproportionately impacted by chronic illness, and also experience earlier onset of those conditions than their white peers. Additionally, Black patients experience mortality rates of 5-10x higher than their white peers, depending on the condition. This is what medical racism looks like in action, and we’re committed to working against that to ensure that all patients get equitable care.

To those celebrating today, may your Juneteenth be full of family, community, and joy! ❤️💛💚 We’ll continue to be here to provide support, education, and equitable care — on Juneteenth and beyond.

We never mind answering questions about our credentials, but we’re not going to stand by and let internet randos condescendingly mansplain about how “NDs aren’t real doctors.” (That’s called disinformation, sweetie — look it up 💅)

To our new friend Austin (donitoscoolranch) from Threads: We’re highly educated, we’re licensed, we’re f*cking GOOD at what we do, and we’re not going to apologize because you’re intimidated by that.

To everyone else: If that sounds like a provider you want on your medical team, we’re here to help! Check out the rest of our videos for more information, or visit ariaintegrative.com/appointments to book an appointment.

We know that you’ve been conditioned to “push through” because perimenopause “is what it is,” but this isn’t your mom’s perimenopause care. Our generation has options — better HRT (or non-HRT options), doctors who listen, and actual research into what is happening in your body.

In Part 6 of our perimenopause series, Dr. Fariba and Dr. Bennett talk about why women still hesitate to get the perimenopause care they need, how that care differs from that of previous generations, and how they see the tides turning in favor of patient empowerment.

If you have questions about perimenopause, menopause, and other women’s health issues, our team is here to help! You can make an appointment — in person or virtual — at ariaintegrative.com/appointments.

As with anything else, we’re going to do a lot of exploring: Can you not tolerate antihistamines, or do you need a lower dose? Are you reacting to the medicine itself, or to the dyes and fillers in that particular brand? And also, what does “not tolerating” it mean? Are you experiencing something that’s a known side effect, and if so, can we work on your dosing to help mitigate those effects to a manageable level?

We’re here to work with you until you’re comfortable with your course of treatment! If you need help with your MCAS, book an appointment with our providers — in person or virtual! — at https://www.ariaintegrative.com/appointments/.

Medical care is EXPENSIVE 💸 but we’re committed to keeping healthcare affordable for our patients! That’s why we have AIM Access, a 501c3 non-profit that can cover up to 75% of patients’ bills. Visit our website to learn more about AIM Access and apply for financial aid, or make a (much-appreciated!) donation towards our work at https://www.paypal.com/donate?campaign_id=UMMCH5VKQ6J2W.

TL;DR: Anosmia is weird. It’s unlikely it’s being caused by this particular combination of diagnoses, BUT, it could be caused by bacterial changes caused by Psoriatic Arthritis, pancreatic insufficiency, or something else entirely!

We’d recommend microbiome testing — there are cool oral and nasal swabs now to help us figure out what’s going on in there! — to get a better picture of your bacterial makeup and how that might be impacting your senses of smell and taste.

If you’re local to Seattle and want to pop by our office to get checked out, we’d love to see you! You can make an appointment at https://www.ariaintegrative.com/appointments/.

June is Scleroderma Awareness Month! Scleroderma literally translates to “hard skin,” but you can also experience systemic scleroderma which causes the hardening of your internal organs and leads to things like shortness of breath and digestive issues.

Dr. Stocker notes that scleroderma is one of the rarer and less talked about autoimmune diseases, and disproportionately impacts women. But the more you know, the sooner you can seek intervention and treatment, and the better outcomes you can have!

If you’re living with a scleroderma diagnosis or any of the symptoms mentioned in this video and are seeking treatment, we’re here to help! Book your appointment — either in person or via telehealth — at ariaintegrative.com/appointments 💙

Can you have MCAS if you only have a few skin issues? The answer is a resounding YES! MCAS is diagnosed by looking at symptoms in at least two different body symptoms at the same time, so if you have skin flushing and any of the symptoms on the EXTREMELY long list Dr. Windsor covers here, it could very well be MCAS!

We’ll be covering MCAS, autoimmune disease, chronic illness and more TODAY at our TikTok Live! Join us from 2:30-3:30 PM PT to get your questions answered on all things health-related.

Can’t make to today’s Live? No worries! We’re always happy to answer questions via appointments at our clinic, whether that’s in person or via telehealth. You can book your appointment at ariaintegrative.com/appointments.

We’re saying it louder for the people in the back: Not feeling like yourself is a big fu***ng deal! Just because your perimenopause symptoms are normal doesn’t mean you have to suffer through your symptoms without support!

In Part 5 of our perimenopause series, Dr. Fariba and Dr. Bennett talk how to handle pushback from doctors who think perimenopause symptoms are “all in your head” (they’re not, we promise), and discuss how while HRT is great for treatment, it’s not the right path for everyone, and that’s okay!

If you still have questions about perimenopause, menopause, and other women’s health issues, our team is here to help! You can make an appointment — in person or virtual — at ariaintegrative.com/appointments.
