As of late Monday evening, June 1, Bayview experienced a power outage due to a neighborhood wide service interruption. Seattle City Light is actively working to restore power as quickly as possible.

Whenever an outage occurs, our building’s emergency generator activates immediately, and our team transitions into emergency response mode. We take prompt steps to ensure resident safety, maintain essential services, and confirm that emergency communications remain available throughout the community.

Our team is actively monitoring the situation and working diligently to minimize disruptions while normal operations are restored. We appreciate your patience and support during this time.

Well… Nancy our CEO has spoken.

While she may have preferred a trip to Paris, instead, our visitor parking lot will be closed May 18–22 for concrete repaving. During this time, there will be no vehicle or pedestrian access through the lot.

Bayview visitors: please use neighborhood parking and enter through our West Aloha entrance. Thank you for your understanding!

Michael Johnston and his wife, Lynn, moved to Bayview in 2024 after spending 25 years in Ballard. Michael has a deep connection to Queen Anne, having lived and worked in the neighborhood for many years. Together, Michael and Lynn have explored the world, traveling to places like Mexico, Italy, and Greece. But one of Michael’s greatest passions has been with him much longer than his excitement for travel. His love of trains began at just seven years old, when he received his very first train set. That early interest grew into a lifelong hobby, with an entire basement in their Ballard home dedicated to the detailed train layouts he designed and built.

For Michael, model trains are about more than the trains themselves. The hobby keeps him active and observant, inspiring him to study landscapes, trees, and mountains so he can recreate them in miniature form. At Bayview, he has created a dedicated train space for the community, where his layouts spark memories, conversations, and curiosity. A strong believer in play at every age, Michael encourages everyone to step in, explore, and have fun. As he likes to say, “You can’t break it.”

Since 1961, Bayview hasn’t just set the standard for vibrant living, we’ve been setting records.

In 2019, Bayview resident Kitty Hodges, at age 103, set the Guinness World Records for the oldest female person to tandem skydive. In the second photo, captured right after her freefall, she was asked if she wanted water. Her response? “No, I’ll have some vodka!” A few months later, Kitty inspired three other Bayview residents to tandem skydive. Living at Bayview means being part of a community that proves it’s never too late to try something new.

Before Mr. Pickles the cat, there was Mr. Bayview (the cat). to 1984, when Mr. Bayview, a 24-pound Manx house cat, made himself at home at Bayview, choosing from a smorgasbord of cozy beds to nap on, laps to jump into, and hallways to roam as if they were his own. He quickly became part of the community, a familiar and comforting presence to residents and staff alike. Pictured here with Mr. Bayview is Janey Smith, now a Bayview resident and formerly Bayview's Director of Activities in the 80's, who today remembers just how special he was. In fact, Mr. Bayview was such an important member of the community that he required special permission from both the Mayor of Seattle, Charles Royer and the Governor of Washington, John Spellman to call Bayview home.
