Last week, AARTH’s Training Coordinators visited The Central Area Senior Center to collaborate on a one-on-one Technology Support Session with seniors in the community. It was a meaningful opportunity to help build confidence with technology and provide hands-on support for everyday digital needs.

We want to thank The Central Area Senior Center for partnering with us and helping bring this important service to seniors across King County.

Today, AARTH is hosting another Technology Support Session from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the AARTH office.

All registration spots have been filled, but community members are still welcome to stop by and a staff member will assist you as availability allows.

As we continue highlighting the importance of skin health during Skin Cancer Awareness Month, AARTH is proud to collaborate with Fred Hutch Cancer Center to host a virtual Skin Cancer Workshop Lead by Fred Hutch Community Health Educator Michaella Cobbinah.

Together, we’re creating space for important conversations around prevention, awareness, and early detection. This workshop is designed for everyone because skin cancer can affect anyone. Participants will learn how to check their skin with confidence, recognize possible warning signs, and explore everyday habits that may help lower risk.

We recently had the opportunity to bring our Community Navigators together for a special evening of connection, conversation, and community as they met our new Executive Director for the first time.

The night was filled with meaningful conversation as our new Executive Director had the chance to get to know the Community Navigators and hear more about their experiences and dedication to the work they do in the community. She also shared her goals and vision for the future of AARTH.

It was truly a wonderful evening, and we are excited for this new chapter ahead.

We are honored to welcome master dancer and drummer Awal Alhassan to the Sawubona Festival stage! ✨

Born into a lineage of performers in Ghana, Awal Alhassan brings the "One Heart" (Sohoyini) spirit to every movement. Alongside the powerhouse Sohoyini Dancers, they tell the vibrant stories of the Dagomba people through high-energy rhythms, intricate footwork, and the soul-stirring beat of the talking drum. 🌍

Don't miss them: Awal has traveled the world, preserving and sharing the richness of African culture.

Health Trivia Answer: It’s C

While skin cancer is less common among Black and African American individuals, it is often diagnosed at later stages, which can make it more serious and harder to treat.

That’s why awareness matters.

In communities across King County, many people are not told to check areas like the palms of their hands, soles of their feet, or under their nails, where skin cancer can appear differently on darker skin.

Knowing what to look for and taking changes seriously can make a life-saving difference.
