One approach I offer at Healing Hands, and a big reason I love in person sessions, is Sand Tray Therapy. Sand Tray is much more than playing in a sand box, it's an opportunity to let your subconscious rise to the surface and gives you a peek into what's brewing underneath. Choosing from my vast array of miniatures, you'll create a small world in the sand tray, then you and I together explore what it brings up. In some cases, just making the world is enough to bring relief to a client. In others, it can open doors to a level of introspection and understanding that traditional talk therapy can't replicate. If this is intriguing to you, I encourage you to reach out and plan a session.

As someone who interned in a children's hospital and as a midlife woman who wrote a thesis on mothers in midlife, this concept of disenfranchised grief is an important one. It shows up in many different ways and is often dismissed or minimized. This is a nice article introducing the idea, and I invite you to check It out and see if it resonates. Do you have lingering regrets, resentment or sadness over how your life has played out? Art therapy in particular is a very effective approach to grief and sadness, or to coming to grips with who you are in the here and now.

There’s a particular kind of grief that often goes unnamed. It’s not the grief of losing someone we love or even the grief that accompanies a devastating diagnosis.
