Kari Lyne Campbell of Unionville, age 53, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 19, 2026, after battling hard against complications of a stroke. Kari was born on December 29, 1972, in Owosso, Michigan, to the late Dale and Linda (Harrison) Thornton. After graduating from Sanford Meridian high school, Kari pursued a calling in nursing that would share her kindness and giving nature with all who were lucky enough to meet her. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Delta College before starting her service to her community as a registered nurse, most recently with Aspire Rural Health System in Cass City. The shining example of Kari’s kindness and love is her cherished family; she raised two beautiful children in Hunter and Kylie and came to find companionship with Michael “Mike” Campbell, whom she married on September 3, 2021. They are left to honor her memory and legacy of giving. In her free time, Kari enjoyed spending time outside golfing, tending to her garden, or raising the many chicks and chickens that affectionately earned her the title of “chicken lady.” She is remembered as being a nurturing and loving woman whose grace will be missed by any who came to know her.

Kari is survived by husband, Mike Campbell; children, Hunter and Kylie Bohn; step-children, Brett and Jailyn Campbell; brothers, David (Daniel) Thornton, Brent Thornton, and Ryan Thornton; and sister, Morgan Novak; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members, numerous friends, and the countless patients Kari cared for throughout the years.

In accordance with Kari’s wishes, cremation is to take place, with a celebration of life to be held at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Faithway Church, 3108 Rescue Road, Bad Axe, MI 48413, with Pastor Mike Beeler presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, with checks payable to Michael Campbell.

Fredrick “Fred” Herbert Deming of Vassar, age 81, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by the love and support of his family after a short illness on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Fred was born on June 22, 1944, in Sebewaing, Michigan, to the late Donald and Lucile (Martens) Deming and was a 1962 graduate of Laker High School. After high school, Fred enlisted in the United States Army, honorably serving his country from 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1970. He began working for ASTECH Inc. in Vassar in 1971, retiring as the long-time foundry superintendent in 2008. Fred married Margret LeGue on July 25, 1964. She is left to cherish his memory.

Fred was a consummate outdoorsman, creating countless priceless memories with his family waterfowl hunting and fishing throughout the Thumb. He was also well known and highly regarded throughout the region as a competition trap shooter. His deep knowledge of and skill with fi****ms saw him serve as the range safety officer and trap league youth coach at Gateway Sportsman Club where he was deeply involved. Fred loved working with his hands; he was a self-taught steel guitar player and could build just about anything under the sun. He was a loving family man who treasured time grilling with his loved ones and going on car rides with Margret.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Margret; children, Kelly (Bruce) Salmons, Tammie (Scott) Kruse, Scott (Melinda) Deming, Russel Deming, and Autumn (Ronald Heron) Grant; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and siblings, Betty Lou Miller, Rose Eisilones, James (Faith) Deming, Ronald (Dee) Deming, and Vera Deming; as well many nieces, nephews, other family members, countless friends, and beloved cats Harry and Sugar.

Fred was preceded in death by brothers, Dennis “Cork” Deming, David Deming, and Timothy Deming; sisters-in-law, Rosana Deming and Linda Skinner; brother-in-law, Lawrence Jewell; and grandson, Matthew Davis.

A funeral service for Fred will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Ransford Funeral Home – Sebewaing, 538 South Beck Street. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, with a committal service and military honors to be held following the funeral at New Bay Port Cemetery. In honor of his longtime support of the sport, memorial contributions may be made to Gateway Sportsman Club.

Harold Roy Engelhardt

Harold Roy Engelhardt of Sebewaing, age 92, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, while at Scheurer Hospital. He was born April 28, 1934, the son of the late Herman and Hilda (Haske) Engelhardt. His life began on the family farm where both his father and grandfather were born and raised. He graduated from Sebewaing High School with the Class of 1952 and was a proud member of the Sebewaing High FFA. In 1975, Harold married the love of his life, Eunice Ostic, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. The couple spent forty-four blissful years together until Eunice’s passing on November 26, 2019.

Harold was proud of the family farm and enjoyed being able to carry on the family tradition. His entire life revolved around the Lord, the crop, and his family. He spent countless hours tending his garden, camping with his grandchildren, and preserving the 170-year legacy of the family farm. Whether sharing stories about his tractors or recounting the many experiences the farm had endured over the years, Harold loved passing down these memories and lessons to his children, grandchildren, and all who wanted to hear his stories. For many years, when winter arrived, he traded the tractor seat for a job at the Michigan Sugar factory in Sebewaing, where he worked until it was time to return to the farm each spring.

He was notorious for being able to locate good coffee, free popcorn, and find great conversations along the way. He was strong in his faith and attended church regularly until he wasn’t able and even then, still listened to the service each week on the radio. Those who knew him will remember him for his gentle spirit, his patience, and above all else, the selfless care he provided for his family. He will be missed by many, including his lifelong friends, Harley Birsching and Vic Engelhardt.

Left to cherish Harold’s memory are his loving children, Charles Clark, Michael (Vivian Limberger) Clark, Gary (Lynette) Clark, Wendell Stolter, Howard Stolter, Lisa (Mike) Errer, and Diana (Bill Yager) Rich; grandchildren, Jasmine (Mike) Southgate, Aaron (Kerrie) Clark, Eric (Katelyn) Clark, Kyle (Samantha) Clark, Renae (Kevin) Whaler, Nicole Stolter, Alyssa (Blake) Rivard, Shawn (Kalyn) Stolter, Lara (Kyle) Aldrich, Alea (Reece Smith) Errer, and Angelina Pudvan; granddaughter-in-law, DeAnn Clark; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way!

In addition to his parents and wife, Harold was preceded in death by his grandson, Casey Clark; granddaughter, Hope Stolter; uncle, Henry Engelhard; and good friend, James Winter.

Harold’s funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Rev. Michael Boyer will officiate. Harold’s family will be present to receive visitors on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Ransford Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again at church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his service. Patricia Kate O'Brien-Sikoski

Patricia Kate O’Brien-Sikoski, age 92, of Bad Axe, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at New Hope Bay in Bay City. She was born on June 5, 1934 in Bay Port, the daughter of the late Thomas Stafford Sr. and Mildred (Meyer) Wise. Patricia graduated from high school and went on to work as a secretary. She loved to play bingo and enjoyed spending her time at the Huron County Senior Center. Patricia was a gentle and reserved person who found joy in life's simple, peaceful moments.

In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her two husbands.

In keeping with Patricia’s wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be buried at New Bay Port Cemetery with her family. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Huron County Senior Center Meal Site.

Frances Johanna Balzer

Frances Johanna Balzer of Unionville, age 92, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026 at Covenant Cooper in Saginaw, with her family by her side. She was born on August 13, 1933 in Unionville, the daughter of the late Arthur and Pauline (Arps) Strieter. Frances was the fourth child of seven, Betty, Velma, Arnold, Caroline, Pauline, and Paul. She was preceded in death by five of her siblings, her husband, and two grandsons, Michael Hofmeister and Jeremy Lupp.

Frances married the love of her life, Melvin Balzer on September 22, 1951 with A.W. Wilkening officiating. They lived in Hazel Park, Ferndale, and Saginaw before moving back to Unionville. God blessed their marriage with four children, Patricia (David) Hofmeister, Renea (Rod) Tarzwell, Sue (Rob) O'Neil, and Ron (Ann) Balzer. She loved that all her children attend church. They were also blessed with eleven grandchildren, Amy Hofmeister, Karen (Melaku) Habte, Amy (Doug) Tietz, Steve (Andrea) Tarzwell, Sara (Nathan) Mastie, Brandon (Cortney) Lupp, Janelle (John) Estelle, Samuel (Haley) Balzer, Andrew (fiancé, Becca) Balzer, and Danielle (fiancé, Bryston) Balzer; two step-grandchildren, Matthew O'Neil and Mallorie (Josh) Brown; fifteen great-grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, and Lindsay Hofmeister, Edward and Katie Tietz, Solyanna Habte, Grace and Kyle Mastie, Sydney and Sawyer Lupp, Lily Lupp, Ezra and Ella Estelle, and Rhett and Sutton Balzer. Frances loved seeing her grandchildren get married and have families. She especially enjoyed their visits, big hugs, and phone calls.

Frances loved camping with family and friends, sewing, and working in her garden. She was blessed with good health until January of 2023 when she suffered a stroke. After spending eight months in therapy and assisted living, she moved to Bay View Garden in Sebewaing which became like family. Frances enjoyed volunteering at the Orphan Grain Train, quilting at Immanuel Lutheran, working elections, weighing trucks at the Sugar Beet Factory, and playing cards with friends and family. Frances was a dedicated member at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The love and faith she shared with her family and friends will be missed beyond measure and always remembered

Frances’ funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Rev. Michael Boyer will officiate and Frances will be buried at Columbia Township Cemetery in Unionville, next to her husband. Harold Harford Ross

Harold Harford Ross of Sebewaing, age 85, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at Fisher Senior Care. He was born in Bellville, Ontario, the son of the late Harold and Irene (Elliott) Ross. Harold grew up in Peterborough, Ontario and served in the Royal Canadian Navy. The family moved to Unionville, Michigan in the late 1950s, where Harold worked with his father at the family garage. Harold held various jobs over the years, including General Cable in Cass City, Sebewaing Industries, Pontiac Motors, Fox Construction, Archie’s Gas Station on 46, managed Big Boy & Burger King, and ultimately retired from Rochester Gear in 2007 as a machine operator. Harold enjoyed playing cards, camping, and loved the outdoors. He was a huge fan of any Toronto team, but especially the Maple Leafs. Harold liked to go dancing and listen to his country music, especially Hank Williams and when his show, Hee Haw, was on you better be quiet. He will always be remembered for the huge heart he had for his family and how much he loved his kids.

Harold leaves to cherish his memory, his nine children, Wendy (Bob) Dickson, Rhonda Lara, Kevin Ross, Becky (Mitch Valdez) Ross, Brian (Victoria Hill) Ross, Heather (Tony Polega) Ross, Brandi (Jeff) Haley, John (Kayla) Ross, and Kyle Ross; fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; sister, Helen (fiancé, Keith) Hardenburg and Karen (Randy) Coleman; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Zein, brother, John Ross, and great-grandson, Ryder Ross.

Harold’s funeral service will be on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. at the Ransford Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The family will be present to receive visitors on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of his service. Kathy Marion Volz, a.k.a. The Kilmanagh Poet, a lifelong resident of Huron County, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, surrounded by the beauty she always found in everyday life. Born to the late Mardell and Donald Volz on December 29, 1966, she lived a life in her own wonderfully unique way. She found joy in strong coffee, discovering new coffee shops, baking creative treats, and driving around in her pickup with music playing loud, especially the Killers and KISS.

She had a deep love for poetry, practiced Reiki, and cared deeply for her beloved barn cats. Kathy will be remembered for her quirky spirit, quiet kindness, and ability to make ordinary moments feel special. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

In honor of Kathy, loved ones are encouraged to share a cup of strong coffee, play their favorite music loudly, care for an animal in need, or pause to notice the beauty hidden in ordinary places just as she always did.

A funeral service for Kathy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Ransford Funeral Home – Sebewaing, 538 South Beck Street, with Pastor Thom Garrison presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, with burial to follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Linda Ardell Schweitzer

Linda Ardell Schweitzer of Sebewaing, age 77, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026 at the Huron County Medical Care Community surrounded by her family. She was born on March 10, 1949 in Portsmouth, Virginia, the daughter of the late Grover and Anna (Hill) Welborn. Linda graduated from high school in Virginia in 1967. Following high school, Linda worked in the office at K-Mart and bartended at the Auburn Hotel. On December 8, 1979, she married the love of her life, Dennis C. Schweitzer at Grace Lutheran Church in Auburn. Linda was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-Linkville. She enjoyed doing needle work, playing computer games, and working outside in the garden or mowing the lawn. Linda loved being at home and spending time with her family. Her strong will, thoughtfulness, and wisdom will be missed beyond measure.

Linda leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of over forty-six years, Dennis; daughter, Deborah (Kevin) Barnum; grandchildren, Jesse, Alex, and Bradley Barnum. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her son, James Crawford.
