Sometimes barn chores turn into a fun game of eye spy… today’s spying fun was this little girl. Good thing Angie saw her before she added more hay for the horses!

Summer has begun which means it’s seems like everyone, including Bruno, are posting “picture perfect” photos of their adventures. It’s easy to get sucked into the scroll.

To find yourself longing to be somewhere exotic.
To find yourself comparing yourself,or your adventures, to someone else’s.
To find yourself taking 100 photos with the sun setting behind you and miss the sunset entirely.

While this photo of Bruno may be “picture perfect” and he’s had some adventures this year, it doesn’t capture what’s really going on his life.

It doesn’t capture the day to day.
It doesn’t capture vet visits.
It doesn’t capture having to teach Meghann’s puppy, Tula, how to behave.
It doesn’t capture how amazing, but also exhausting, it can be to have 30 visitors every Tuesday and Wednesday.

So in those moments of comparison remember that life is full of moments. Some of them are picture perfect. But most of them aren’t, and simply make up the picture that is our lives.

One of the things that makes The Mane Mission magical is that there are so many ways to connect with all of our friends. Yesterday, we hosted a group that had a diverse range of needs. Some of our friends use a wheel chair. Some have vision impairments. Regardless of ability our animals meet our friends where they are.

It’s incredible to watch the transformation that holding a chicken brings about or witnessing the feelings of confidence when someone overcomes a sense of anxiety at approaching a horse that is bigger than they are.

There are so many ways to be part of this magic. Check out our website for options to donate or volunteer. https://www.themanemission.com

These smiles are contagious. We’re so grateful to spend time smiling with our friends on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during groups.

Sometimes we witness a smile that comes after someone hits the target in archery for the first time. Sometimes it’s when they spot the bear den on a ATV ride. Other times it’s the talents of our staff and volunteers who paint a participants favorite thing on a hand or cheek.

It’s a beautiful reminder that when we pause, and connect with each other, smiles abound.

This photo captures so much of what The Mane Mission is. We are only as strong as our team of staff and volunteers and these hands represent our team today.

We treasure the opportunity to serve those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. On each of our wrists is a friendship bracelet from one of our participants today. She’s starting her own small business and gave us each a bracelet. Now we’re her ambassadors.

It’s so sweet to step into our friends’ lives. To walk alongside them in the challenges. To celebrate their successes. And to be invited to cheering them on as they step out into the world in new ways.

Thank you, Bri, for making us all smile by gifting us with your talents today. We can’t wait to hear how the business is going next time we see you.

If you’d like to support Bri’s business dreams send us a note and we’ll let her know.

THIS is group of some of the most incredible humans - these are The Mane Mission Interns and they bring their energy and hearts each week to make our IDD Groups something special.

Earlier this week we had our full staff of summer interns onsite. While we’ve started groups with a few of our interns who were already home from school, we’re excited for the coming weeks when the whole crew is back.

As the newcomer to the bunch, my heart was filled seeing these young adults embrace each other and pick up right where they left off. It was a bit like a family reunion with the banter of siblings and cousins.

There was laughter. There was reflection and maybe some misty eyes (Kathy). There was brainstorming for what this season could bring. We’re so excited to be back together and welcome our IDD groups to the ranch!

Earlier this week we were honored to receive a grant for our newest offering at The Mane Mission - Teen Therapy Groups. We are offering both 4 and 6 week programs. One focuses on discovering our place in the world and the other prioritizes managing stress, emotions, and relationships.

Board Members Michael and Nicky attended the event and heard from Champ Bailey who talked about the importance of kids finding someone who is the blueprint of the life they want.

TMM is honored to be a small but meaningful part of a system of non-profits who have the privilege of serving kids and adolescents in our state! Wings Credit Union was able to grant $300,000 to local non-profits doing this work. The requests received totaled $3.1M! This makes being a recipient of the funds such an honor. Now we are able to offer teens in our community a unique healing opportunity.

Stay tuned for more details on the program. If you, or someone you know are interested in the program, send us a DM or comment below.

It was a beautiful day at The Mane Mission - a wee bit different from last week when we were huddled in the barn and dodging rain and snow! Our friends today visited with the minis and chicks, painted rocks, practiced archery, and had stick horse races.

It’s amazing to see the smiles as they get out of the vans and pick up conversations like they’ve never been away. What’s even better is being reminded that we all have childlike joy when presented with new opportunities- like petting a baby chick or tiny horse.

It’s easy to be a part of days like this. Consider signing up to volunteer or become a donor and you’ll create memories like this. (Links for both in bio and on our website).

We always say the best therapists have fur and four legs. This is proof that the best meetings happen without four walls!

We’re excited to launch a teen program in a few weeks where we’ll dig into aspects of how we form our ideas of who we and who we should be.

This morning we spent a few hours planning and dreaming with our therapists (including the furry ones🐴) - imagining what this program could and should be - all while soaking up the sun ☀️ . Be on the lookout for more details coming soon.
