Two weeks ago, today, Kathy’s dad lost his battle with cancer and passed away surrounded by his family. As you can see in these images, Gary Mason (Kathy’s dad) was a horse lover and he passed that love of horses, animals, and nature on to Kathy - ultimately leading to the dream that became The Mane Mission.
Times like these can be challenging . Often we want to reach out and show support, but we don’t know the right words to say or the right thing to do. Should we call? Text? Send flowers? Or just give space?
The reality is there is not “right thing” to do in times of grief and loss. Knowing you have support is an incredible gift, but it can also be an incredible challenge. People, like Kathy, will want to respond to every call, every text, every batch of flowers - but she won’t be able to. Right now, she needs to be able to process her own loss and support her family, all while wading through the fog that is grief and trying to do the “normal parts” of life.
We invite you to keep Kathy, her mom, her siblings, Gary’s grandkids and great grandkids in your thoughts and prayers. Because Kathy’s dad knew the healing power of nature and horses, we have set up a special fund in his honor. Donations to this fund will support the creation of a sanctuary at The Mane Mission - a place where those who knew and loved Gary can gather, a place where stories can be told of his life, a place where those who didn’t know him can seek a quiet healing moment. Funds will be used to purchase a memorial bench and plant trees.
Follow your heart and feel free to send a card or text, but consider including a note that no reply is necessary. In lieu of gifts or flowers, we invite you to contribute to this fund so that the entire family, and others that visit The Mane Mission, have a place to remember, heal, and connect.
