A HEALTHY KITCHEN SHORTCUT
Seven Colorful Smoothie Bags—Ready for the Week!
A little preparation turns a busy morning into something bright, nourishing and easy.
One of my favorite weekly habits is preparing seven individual freezer bags—one for each day. They look beautiful lined up in the freezer, filled with colorful fruits and greens, and they make it wonderfully easy to create a fresh smoothie in just a few minutes.
My Freezer-Bag Basics
Mix and match any of these. You do not need every ingredient in every bag:
• Greens: spinach and kale, celery
• Sweetness: banana
• Beautiful berries: blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries
• Fresh additions: chopped apple, cucumber and watermelon
Yes—You Can Freeze That!
Apples, cucumbers and watermelon may be surprising freezer choices. Their texture becomes softer after freezing, so they may not be ideal for eating plain—but they are wonderful for blending into smoothies. Core and chop apples, and cut cucumbers and watermelon into manageable pieces before freezing.
When It Is Time to Blend
Take out one bag, add your preferred liquid, and blend until smooth. Depending on the day, I may add:
• Spirulina
• Cashews
• Protein powder
Add these extras at blending time rather than placing them in the freezer bags. Start with a modest amount of liquid (water, almond milk, yogurt, milk, oat milk) and add more until the smoothie reaches the consistency you enjoy.
Why I Love This Simple Routine
• It saves time on busy mornings.
• It’s an easy, quick grab.
• Good for sharing with family and friends.
• It makes it easy to enjoy a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables.
• It helps use fresh produce before it goes to waste.
• It gives each day a slightly different, delicious combination.
Make It Your Own
There is no single perfect combination. One bag might be berry-rich, another might feature watermelon and cucumber, and another may have extra greens with banana for sweetness. The goal is simply to make healthy choices easier—and perhaps a little more fun.
Seven colorful bags. Seven easy mornings. One nourishing habit!
