Help me welcome Sandra Jenkins, LMHCA to the Sellersburg team!!

Sandra has worked in the mental health field since 2017, with experience spanning behavioral health assessment, crisis intervention, inpatient care, and outpatient therapy. Her diverse background has given her experience supporting individuals with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, relational, and mental health concerns.

In her work with clients, Sandra draws from approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, behavioral interventions, and individualized counseling techniques. She has experience working with children and adolescents, families, couples, individuals experiencing crisis, and those navigating behavioral health and substance-use concerns.

Sandra understands that no two people enter therapy with the same story. She values meeting clients where they are, developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and helping each person identify meaningful steps toward greater emotional well-being and healthier relationships. Whether someone is seeking support for themselves, their child, or their relationship, Sandra strives to provide a welcoming environment where clients can feel supported as they work toward meaningful and lasting change.

If you've been looking for a therapist, now is the time to schedule while she still has availability.

Today we are celebrating one year of having Alyssa as part of the Mindful Life Counseling team, and we couldn’t let this milestone pass without bragging on all of the growth she has accomplished over the past year!

Alyssa has continued to develop a clinical identity rooted in inclusivity, authenticity, attachment, and trauma-informed care. She has been especially intentional about strengthening her knowledge and experience in working with and supporting members of the LGBTQIA+ community, creating a therapeutic space where clients can safely explore identity, relationships, mental health, and the experiences that have shaped them.

Over the past year, Alyssa also completed training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), allowing her to expand her ability to support clients experiencing OCD and anxiety-related concerns. She has continued to deepen her understanding of attachment work, exploring how our earliest relationships, experiences, and patterns of connection can influence the way we see ourselves and navigate relationships in adulthood.

And she isn’t slowing down anytime soon!

Over the next year, Alyssa plans to complete additional AASECT-approved trainings to deepen her knowledge of sexual wellness and further integrate affirming, trauma-informed approaches into her work with clients. She is also continuing to work toward full LMHC licensure, which she plans to achieve within the next year!

One of the things we value so much at Mindful Life is having clinicians who never stop learning, who are willing to continue challenging themselves, expanding their knowledge, and becoming increasingly intentional about the care they provide. Alyssa has embodied that throughout her time with us.

We are incredibly proud of the clinician Alyssa is becoming, grateful for the care she brings to her clients, and so excited to see where this next year takes her.

Happy one year, Alyssa! We are so lucky to have you on the Mindful Life team.

We are so excited to introduce Rachel Perkins, LMHCA, who will officially be joining our New Albany team next week!

Rachel believes that meaningful change begins with meaningful connection—and that therapy should be a place where you feel genuinely seen, heard, accepted, and safe enough to be fully yourself.

Rachel has experience supporting individuals navigating trauma, addiction, emotional regulation, and the complexities that can make life feel overwhelming. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and empowering, drawing from Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Person-Centered Therapy to meet each client where they are.

As an associate-licensed clinician, Rachel will also receive weekly clinical supervision with Mindful Life founder Destini Napier, MA, LMHC, providing dedicated space for continued case consultation, professional development, and growth. Rachel is especially interested in deepening her work with trauma and attachment and will be pursuing additional specialized training in these areas as she begins her work with Mindful Life.

✨ And here’s the exciting part: Rachel is coming in with OPENINGS!

Help us congratulate Ashley Vance on celebrating one year with Mindful Life!

Ashley’s first year with Mindful Life has been one filled with meaningful professional growth, continued education, and important milestones in her development as a clinician.

During her first year with Mindful Life, Ashley obtained her full clinical licensure after successfully passing the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).

Achieving full licensure represented the culmination of years of graduate education, supervised clinical experience, direct client care, and the successful completion of a comprehensive examination evaluating advanced clinical judgment and decision-making. It was an incredible milestone in Ashley’s career and one we were so proud to see her accomplish as part of the Mindful Life team.

Throughout the year, Ashley also continued intentionally expanding the depth of her clinical work through specialized training:

“An IFS Approach to Secure Internal Attachment” with Dr. Richard Schwartz
Through this Internal Family Systems (IFS) training, Ashley deepened her understanding of how attachment experiences can shape our internal world. This approach helps clients compassionately understand the different “parts” of themselves that may carry fear, shame, hurt, or protective responses, and work toward developing a greater sense of safety and security both within themselves and in their relationships.

“OCD Basics” through the International OCD Foundation
OCD is far more complex than the stereotypes that often surround it and can frequently be misunderstood or overlooked. This training strengthened Ashley’s understanding of the many ways OCD can present, the cycle between obsessions and compulsions, and evidence-based principles for recognizing and treating obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

“Get Unstuck” ACT Training through Praxis
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps clients develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions rather than organizing their lives around avoiding or controlling them. This training expanded Ashley’s tools for helping clients build psychological flexibility, identify their values, recognize patterns of avoidance, and continue moving toward meaningful lives, even when anxiety, uncertainty, or uncomfortable emotions are present.

Together, these experiences have continued to shape Ashley into a clinician who looks beyond the symptom itself and remains curious about what is happening underneath it. Whether that means understanding an attachment wound, recognizing an OCD cycle, exploring the protective purpose of a part, or helping someone move out of avoidance and toward what matters most, Ashley continues to approach her work with intention, curiosity, and compassion.

In just her first year with Mindful Life, Ashley achieved full clinical licensure, expanded her training in IFS and attachment, strengthened her competency in OCD, and further developed her work through ACT. We are incredibly proud of the growth she has demonstrated and the dedication she continues to bring to her clients and our practice.

Happy one-year anniversary, Ashley! We are so grateful to have you as part of Mindful Life and can't wait to see what the years ahead bring!

We are so excited to celebrate Robert as he completes his first practicum with Mindful Life and continues into the next stage of his graduate training!

After a successful semester with our practice, Robert has made the decision to continue his clinical journey with Mindful Life as he progresses into his next internship, and we are thrilled to officially welcome him as a permanent part of our team.

Working with an intern can offer some incredible benefits: interns are immersed in the latest evidence-based practices and emerging clinical modalities, often maintain smaller caseloads that allow for more time and individualized attention, and receive ongoing supervision and collaboration from experienced clinicians. They also bring a fresh perspective, genuine curiosity, and an incredible level of intentionality to their work.

Throughout his time with us, Robert has demonstrated a natural clinical ability, particularly in his work with trauma, attachment, and OCD. We have been continually impressed by the depth of his clinical thinking, his ability to connect with clients, and the level of care, insight, and intellect he brings into the therapy room.

We are incredibly proud to have Robert continue growing alongside Mindful Life, and we cannot wait to see the clinician he continues to become. We truly believe he has something special to offer this field.

Congratulations, Robert! We are so lucky to have you as part of the Mindful Life family!

Help us celebrate Jonathan Ford as he recently celebrated one year with Mindful Life Counseling! 🎉

Over the past year, Jonathan has continued to grow both as a clinician and as a trauma-informed therapist. He completed his EMDR Basic Training and has intentionally leaned further into his work with trauma, continuing to build his confidence and clinical skill in this area.

But what we love most is that Jonathan hasn’t viewed training as the finish line. He is continuing his EMDR consultation hours with an EMDRIA-approved consultant to strengthen his skills and deepen his understanding of EMDR in practice. Even after completing the consultation requirements, Jonathan plans to continue supervision as he begins expanding his work into attachment-based EMDR.

Looking ahead, Jonathan’s commitment to continued learning doesn’t stop there. One of his goals for this next year is to complete specialized training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) designed specifically for working with trauma.

Jonathan, we are so proud of the growth, intentionality, and dedication you bring to your work. We’re grateful to have you as part of the Mindful Life team and can’t wait to see where this next year takes you!

✨ STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Celebrating One Year! ✨

Help us congratulate Meagan Petersen, MSN, PMHNP-BC, on celebrating ONE YEAR with Mindful Life Counseling! 🎉

It has been such an honor to have Meagan as a pivotal part of our practice and to watch the impact she has made over the past year. In just her first year with Mindful Life, Meagan has had the opportunity to serve over 200 clients through psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and ongoing psychiatric care.

That number means so much more than we can express. It represents over 200 people who have had access to compassionate, comprehensive mental health care, and for many, the opportunity to have psychiatric services and therapy available under one roof. We believe strongly in treating the whole person, and Meagan has played such an important role in making that vision a reality.

Meagan brings such a warm, empathetic, and genuinely person-centered approach to every person who walks through her door. She takes the time to listen, understand the individual behind the symptoms, and collaborate with her clients to develop care that feels both supportive and individualized.

Beyond the incredible care she provides to her clients, Meagan has also become such a valued member of our Mindful Life team. Her compassion, knowledge, and dedication to the people we serve embody so much of what we hope our practice represents.

Meagan, we are so grateful for everything you have brought to Mindful Life this past year. Congratulations on an incredible first year, and here’s to all of the lives you’ll continue to impact!

Help us show Meagan some love and congratulate her on ONE YEAR at Mindful Life! 🎉

Even though Pride Month is coming to a close, Mindful Life Counseling remains deeply committed to affirming, honoring, and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community every day of the year.

Pride is more than a moment on the calendar, it is an ongoing commitment to creating spaces where people feel safe to be fully themselves, to explore identity without pressure or judgment, and to move through life’s complexities with support rather than shame.

We recognize that experiences related to identity, relationships, family dynamics, discrimination, and self-discovery can be deeply personal and layered. You don’t have to navigate those experiences alone.

We’re grateful to share words from one of our clinicians, Alyssa Banet, who brings both professional dedication and personal connection to her work with the LGBTQIA+ community. Her approach reflects a commitment to warmth, curiosity, and walking alongside clients as they build self-trust and move toward lives that feel authentic and meaningful.

At Mindful Life, we believe every person deserves a space where they feel seen, respected, and supported exactly as they are. Our commitment doesn’t end with June, it continues in every conversation, every session, and every story we’re trusted to hold.

Did someone say second location?!

Surprise!

Sometimes I wish I could go back and talk to a younger version of myself, the version who simply hoped to help one person. I remember thinking, “If I can make a difference for even one person, it will all be worth it.”

I wish I could tell her that one day, she wouldn’t just help one person , she would build something that would help hundreds.

From the very beginning, I knew I wanted to create a space where people felt safe, seen, supported, and deeply cared for. What I never could have imagined was just how much this dream would grow. I pour every bit of myself into Mindful Life, and every detail of our brand is created with intention for both our clients and our staff.

Within six months of opening our Sellersburg location, every therapist was full and we began a waitlist. While that is something to be incredibly grateful for, every name added to that list weighed heavily on my heart, because behind every inquiry is a real person searching for support, healing, hope, or simply someone to walk alongside them.

That’s when I knew it was time to grow.

It is my greatest honor to announce that Mindful Life’s second location, in New Albany, Indiana, will officially open its doors on June 1st. ✨

To every client who has trusted us, every therapist who has helped build this vision, every friend and family member who encouraged me, and every single person who has supported Mindful Life along the way, thank you. None of this would be possible without you.

We cannot wait to continue serving our community in an even bigger way!
