On World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, we're highlighting the important role hospice and palliative care play in helping patients and families navigate serious illness.

Both hospice and palliative care focus on comfort, quality of life and support, helping patients receive care that aligns with their goals and wishes. Palliative care can begin at diagnosis and alongside treatment. Hospice care is typically chosen when treatment is no longer working or a patient decides to stop curative treatment for a terminal illness, shifting the focus to comfort, quality of life and support for both the patient and their loved ones.

***CAREGIVER SPOTLIGHT***

Joshua Pinson
Physical Therapist Assistant
Amedisys Selma Care Team

I have been a Physical Therapist Assistant for nearly 10 years, working in a variety of settings including outpatient, acute care, skilled nursing facilities, and swing bed. Even though I am just beginning my journey in home health, I can already tell it is my favorite. I love the personal
connections that come with home health and the opportunity to see patients soon after surgery. Helping them progress toward independence so they can spend meaningful time with their
families and thrive in their communities has been such a joy. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife, Callie, and our two daughters, Ellie Ann and Cora Jo. Some of my hobbies include basketball and music. I currently lead music at my church and love serving in that capacity. I truly love the home health field and look forward to many more years of serving patients in this way.

We are proud to share that our Selma Care Center has been recognized with the 2024 SUPERIOR Performer designation by SHP, honoring our commitment to excellence in patient satisfaction.

The annual SHP Best™ program was created to acknowledge home health agencies that consistently provide high quality service to their patients. With the largest HHCAHPS benchmark in the nation, SHP is in a unique position to identify and recognize organizations that have made patient experience a priority and have been rewarded for their efforts with high marks on the HHCAHPS survey.

“SHP recognizes how much hard work is involved in providing excellent patient care, and we are proud to acknowledge the tireless efforts of our top-performing customers through our annual SHP Best award program. These organizations care deeply about the patient experience and they never stop striving to improve every single year,” said Kevin Vogel, President of SHP.
