In 2025, Health Center Program awardees served 316,993 people across Alabama.

That care takes a team: physicians, nurses, behavioral health and dental professionals, pharmacists, care coordinators, Community Health Workers, and many others working together to meet local needs.

As part of this broader workforce, Alabama AHEC is helping expand the stateโ€™s Community Health Worker workforce, strengthening connections between people, resources, and care.

During National Health Center Week, we recognize the many professionals who make community-based care possible across Alabama.

Tired legs after a busy day? Compression stockings are a popular way to help keep legs feeling comfortable. They can help improve blood flow, reduce mild swelling, and support your legs during travel or long hours of standing. If you have leg swelling that does not go away or keeps coming back, be sure to talk with a healthcare provider to find out what may be causing it. Leg swelling can be linked heart or kidney disease, hormonal changes, medication side effects and venous or lymphatic disorders.

Are you dealing with knee or ankle pain? Rest isn't always the answer.

According to UAB Sports & Exercise Medicine experts, pain can sometimes stem from underuse, stiffness or limited mobility and doesn't always indicate an injury. Building strength, improving flexibility and maintaining an active lifestyle may help keep your joints healthy and resilient.
