Breast cancer and heart disease are two major health concerns for women, yet they are often thought of separately. In reality, both deserve attention when it comes to prevention, early detection, and long-term wellness.
Thanks to advances in screening and treatment, many women are living longer after a breast cancer diagnosis. However, some cancer treatments, including certain chemotherapy drugs and radiation, can affect heart health. In addition, breast cancer and heart disease can share risk factors such as age, inactivity, obesity, smoking, and poor diet.
This makes regular health screenings especially important. Mammograms can help detect breast cancer early, while routine blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar checks can help identify cardiovascular risks before serious problems develop.
Supporting your health does not have to feel overwhelming. Small steps such as staying active, eating a balanced diet, managing stress, getting enough sleep, and keeping regular medical appointments can make a meaningful difference.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, remember that caring for your heart is also an important part of caring for your overall health. Awareness is powerful, but taking action is even more important.
Know your risks. Get your screenings. Take care of your whole self. 💗❤️
