As we celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary, here's an interesting piece of dental history about our first president!

George Washington's dental problems are well documented, but did you know his dentist, Dr. John Greenwood, kept Washington's last remaining natural tooth as a keepsake?

🕰️ Dr. Greenwood attached the tooth to a charm on his pocket watch. The inscription read:

"In New York, 1790, Dr. Greenwood made President George Washington a whole set of teeth. The enclosed tooth is the last tooth that grew in his head."

Despite the popular myth, George Washington's dentures were not made of wood. Instead, they were crafted from materials such as hippopotamus ivory, human teeth, and other natural materials available at the time. Some of the teeth may have even been Washington's own.

We're certainly thankful dentistry has come a long way over the past 250 years! 😄
