September Wellness Forum: “How Do MIH – Community Paramedics Help?”

Mark Karjalainen, MIH Community Paramedic will present a free WOW! Working on Wellness Radio Forum on Wednesday September 9th at 2:00-3:00 pm on KSQM FM Radio at 91.5 on the radio dial.

This conversation with KSQM FM DJ Olive Martini will answer twelve basic questions plus many questions asked and unasked about how he can interact with you and what you should know and understand going forward. Mark has faithfully served his fellow citizens in Clallam County and the North Olympic Peninsula for more than 20 years. Mark is a fierce advocate for emergency medicine and the co-response model that allows him to expand modern medicine to work with individuals to address perceived insurmountable obstacles to receiving quality care. He will discuss MIH (Mobile Integrated Health), TIP (Treat in Place) options, TAD (Triage to Alternate Destinations) and his Board Membership with the Sequim Free Medical Clinic.

WOW! Working on Wellness is a health education program of Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic—Sequim’s free clinic. The Clinic provides basic urgent care and chronic health care services to uninsured community members. Our work is supported by more than seventy volunteers, including physicians, other professional health care providers and laypersons, as well as private and public donations from the Sequim community and beyond. We would like to thank our 2026 Proud Supporters: Jamestown Family Health Clinic, 7Cedars, KSQM FM Radio Station, and Olympic Medical Center.

The Basic Urgent Care Clinic is open to patients on Monday and Thursday evenings beginning at 5:00 pm. Individuals interested in supporting the Clinic may call 360.582.0218.

One week ago today was one of those days that reminds us why community partnerships matter.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Dr. Robin Jones and the team from Children's International Health Relief, 34 of our patients received free dental cleanings and oral health exams—care that many of them simply could not have accessed otherwise.

The team traveled all the way from Tacoma, bringing their expertise, equipment, and most importantly, their compassion. Throughout the day, our patients left with healthier smiles, valuable oral health education, and the comfort of knowing that someone cares.

This clinic was about so much more than clean teeth. Good oral health is closely connected to overall health, and for many of our patients, this was an opportunity they have been waiting for.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Jones and her amazing team for making the trip to Sequim and for sharing their time and talents with our community. We're also incredibly thankful to our volunteers who helped make the day run so smoothly.

The best news? We're already talking about bringing the team back—and even expanding services in the future with a fully equipped mobile dental unit!

Together, we're proving that when a community comes together, barriers to healthcare can be broken down.
