Today marks 35 years of my midwifery journey. September 1st, 1991 my nephew was born after a 3 day labor. My sister in law had the most beautiful and amazing midwife from Ghana. Her name, Mabel Dzata. She changed the whole course of my life that day with one simple question that was so loaded with belief in me. “Loritha, have you ever considered being a midwife? You would be an incredible one.”
At that time, I had just left an abusive marriage with two small children and had no clue of my value.
That question took me on an incredible journey of self discovery and a career that I so love. The families I have met have impacted my life as much as I have impacted theirs. The students and assistants I have had, have truly been the best of the best. I went through some photos today of my early years and thought I would share a few❤️🥰❤️

I love clinic days so much!!! Being with women as they discover a new level of strength and surrender is one of the most powerful things to witness. And then these cutie pies make it all worth it. After 6 babies in 6 weeks, I now get a little off call breather for the next couple months. So grateful to have time in the mountains to recharge.
