One of the many things kids can express and process through play is anxiety. Anxiety can show up in so many different ways, but regardless of how it shows up, kids can learn to recognize and manage these feelings through Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). It’s incredible to watch the transformation that happens when kids can work through these challenges at a young age. The results are immeasurable. What kids leave with is a changed self-concept and a belief that they are capable of handling all the hard things that life can throw their way. They carry this with them through their lives - with this positive view of themselves and empowered mindset setting them up for good mental and emotional health, success in relationships, and the insight and courage to pursue whatever paths they choose to embark on.
It’s clinical and it’s proven time and again through research and through our experience - but also, it never ceases to feel magical.
Changes we see over the course of play therapy for anxious kids:
Feeling powerless to feeling empowered
Feeling unsure to exuding confidence and self-assuredness
Looking outside for guidance (external locus of control) to trusting themselves to make decisions, try hard things, and figure out a way (inner locus of control)
Being afraid to try to being full of ideas!
Increased distress tolerance (ability to handle things being uncomfortable, hard, or uncertain)
And so much more!
Don’t wait - if you think your child is struggling with anxiety - we can help.
