New Provider Alert!

Behind the Sun Therapeutics is happy to announce the addition of contract mental health clinician Tiffany Becker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)!

Tiffany comes to us with a BS in Psychology from Loyola University (minor in forensics), and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Tulane University, as well as almost 10 years of post masters experience working in a diverse array of settings from corrections to inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance misuse treatment locations.

Tiffany is currently accepting clients for Fridays and Saturdays. She is currently working to get in network with a variety of insurance providers. She is happy to work with people locally and via telehealth.

For now, she is open to take on private pay and sliding fee clients.

And, Tiffany will be soon offering services for our Medicaid and Medicare clients as well as others up at the Seward Community Health Center!

An FYI for the Seward community: Chrissy Forgione (LCSW) and Samuel Johnson (LCSW/PhD) now provide services on alternating Fridays at the Seward Community Health Center. This may be a great option for people that wish to access our services who can't otherwise (medicaid, uninsured 'working folks). Call SCHC at 907 224 2273 for scheduling or for more information.

Behind the Sun Therapeutics, LLC is happy to report that we are now a preferred provider with Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska, with an effective date of April 1, 2020.
Samuel and Chrissy hope that this will assist in improving accessibility and decreasing any out of pocket costs related to accessing mental health care for our BCBS patients.

Behind the Sun Therapeutics LLC is happy to provide telehealth based services to all our clients, whose mental health needs might otherwise go unmet for the foreseeable future as a result of COVID-19 precautionary measures.

This may become our standard service provision in the very near future to balance our social responsibility to the general public (and Sam and Chrissy's families) with our professional responsibilities to our clients.

As a side note, Samuel and Chrissy are currently accepting new clients and are happy to conduct all phases of service delivery through telehealth until the virus has been effectively neutralized here in Alaska. As usual, folks can contact us at 907-422-7504 or [email protected] to get started.

Behind the Sun Therapeutics LLC (BTST LLC) is happy to announce the return of beloved clinician Christine Forgione, LCSW to the Seward area after recent work with the PeaceCorps in Eswatini (pictured).

Chrissy will be starting a week on/week off schedule as a contract mental health clinician with BTST LLC beginning the week of January 27th, 2020.

Samuel and Chrissy will be alternate weeks, so BTST LLC can offer more responsive scheduling, collaborative clinical services including options for primary clinician week off coverage, and decreased wait times for getting into services.

Samuel and Chrissy will share the BTST LLC mobile phone and email so as to facilitate continuity on cases and scheduling.

Sam’s colleague Brittany Murrell came through Seward a couple years ago collecting audience reaction data for her thesis research following the presentation of the famous David Holthouse’s play on sexual assault and survivorship ‘Stalking the Bogeyman. She will be presenting on her study and her final findings on January 9th from 1-3 PM. People are welcome to call in using the information provided in the attached flyer.

A quick primer on The Nurtured Heart approach to encouraging positive behavior:

The nurtured heart approach is a great resource for parents who feel like they have 'tapped out' conventional parenting strategies and their emotional resources while trying to help their children succeed and/or decrease the incidence of problem behaviors.

The great thing about the nurtured heart approach is that it allow parents to focus on a few key principles that emphasize a healthy connection between child and parent as opposed to focusing on the problem behaviors and providing a complicated set of positive and negative consequences designed to mimic 'real world consequences' while often missing the mark.
