This feature spotlights Jackson County high school and college students who participate in Work-Based Learning or an internship.
Next is Hudson Fritz, a junior majoring in financial counseling and minoring in communication and management at Purdue University and a 2024 graduate of Brownstown Central High School, who is an intern in the accounting department at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

What is your job title or role?
Accounting intern
What are your responsibilities?
Support accounting/finance projects, assist with data analysis and reporting, gain knowledge and assist with support of accounting operations.
What do you like about what you get to do?
I like that I get to work in Excel most of the time. I don't have much experience in Excel, even though I've taken two classes on Microsoft applications, so being able to play around in Excel every day has helped me be able to find some cool shortcuts, allowing me to do my job more efficiently. This experience will help me later on in my workforce journey.
How often are you there?
Tuesday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
How do you benefit from the internship?
This internship gives me a resume builder for future jobs and career opportunities and experience in the office setting.
What would you say to other students to encourage them to do an internship?
Even though internships don't pay as much as regular summer jobs, they are still very important resume builders and vital in gaining experience in whatever setting you plan on working in after college.
What else are you involved in at school?
I'm involved in the Financial Counseling Association, and I play intramural basketball with some of my friends.
What are you involved in outside of school?
I'm not involved with anything directly outside of school, but I do like to go to the Purdue football and basketball games with my friends. It's always a great time.
In high school, did you do Work-Based Learning or an internship or have a job?
In high school, I did not do Work-Based Learning or have an internship, but I did work at the Jackson County Fairgrounds during the summer throughout all of high school. I was a part of the grounds maintenance team and did various jobs, from mowing to repairing broken fences and whatnot. Even though this job didn't have any direct importance to my future career choice, it still gave me valuable experience in the workforce, teaching me to be on time and to show up and be available every day.
What are your plans after college?
After college, I would like to find a job in financial counseling but am uncertain on where I will work.
