Creativity was in full color at Benedictine St. Gertrude's!

Our assisted living residents had a blast designing their own tie-dye T-shirts during one of our weekly community activities, and no two shirts turned out the same. From vibrant swirls to bold bursts of color, each design is as unique as the person who created it.

30 Years of Care. A Wonderful Day to Celebrate! 🎉

This week, we were honored to celebrate our 30th Anniversary surrounded by the people who make our community so special — our residents, family members, staff, volunteers, friends, donors, and board members.

As we reflect on the remarkable journey that began in 1996 alongside St. Francis Regional Medical Center, we also look ahead with excitement to the future of Benedictine St. Gertrude's.

With a wonderful turnout, we marked this milestone by gathering under the outdoor tent for a delicious pig roast, great music, laughter, and fellowship on a beautiful summer day. It was a celebration of not only our history, but the relationships and shared commitment that have defined our community for the past three decades.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to the many people who helped plan, organize, and make this celebration possible. Your dedication, generosity, and presence are what make the Benedictine St. Gertrude's family so extraordinary.

Here's to 30 years of compassionate care, meaningful connections, and cherished memories—and to many more years ahead!

Surrounded by her leaders, colleagues, and fellow caregivers, Kelly Buesgens was surprised and celebrated as the 2026 recipient of the Sister Claudia Riehl Living a Legacy Award. She also had the special opportunity to stand alongside past award recipients — an inspiring reminder of the legacy of service, compassion, and leadership this recognition represents.

Kelly exemplifies our Benedictine values of respect, stewardship, justice, and hospitality in everything she does. She approaches every patient, resident, family member, coworker, and student with kindness, dignity, and compassion, creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued.

A dedicated team player, Kelly is known for supporting her colleagues, mentoring students, advocating for those who are underserved, and thoughtfully stewarding the resources entrusted to her. Her calm presence, generous and kind spirit, and commitment to serving others have made a lasting impact throughout Benedictine St. Gertrude's and beyond.

Over her 18 years of service, Kelly has faithfully lived our mission — stepping up during the COVID-19 pandemic, serving in the Air National Guard, and volunteering both locally and globally. Through it all, she continues to inspire those around her with her compassion and unwavering dedication to caring for others.

Please join us in congratulating Brooke O'Kane on her promotion to Assistant Executive Director!

Since joining Benedictine St. Gertrude's in 2024 as Housing Director, Brooke has demonstrated outstanding leadership, a deep commitment to resident well-being, and a passion for creating a positive experience for residents, families, and team members alike.

In her new role, Brooke will continue to promote collaboration across our campus, supporting seamless communication, operational excellence, and a connected continuum of care for those we serve.

We are excited to see the impact she will continue to make and look forward to her ongoing leadership as we strive to provide exceptional care, service, and support to our residents and families.
