Frozen shoulder can be painful, frustrating and surprisingly common for women in midlife. But could menopause be part of the reason? 💪

Emerging research is drawing attention to a potential connection between hormonal changes during menopause and adhesive capsulitis, commonly known as frozen shoulder. The condition causes pain, stiffness and a progressive loss of shoulder motion, sometimes making everyday activities like getting dressed or reaching overhead difficult.

If shoulder pain and stiffness aren’t improving, don’t assume it’s simply part of getting older. Understanding the potential connection can be an important first step toward getting the right care. 💜

In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, observed August 31, we remember them and stand with the families and loved ones who carry their memory.

At Sharon Hospital, we’re committed to helping our community recognize the signs of an overdose, understand how naloxone can help save a life and feel prepared to step in when someone needs help.

For people facing advanced pancreatic cancer, treatment options have often been limited. But a newly FDA-approved targeted therapy is offering a reason to feel hopeful.

Daraxonrasib is a once-daily pill that works by targeting KRAS, a gene that can have a mutation found in more than 90% of pancreatic cancers. In a clinical trial, the drug doubled the median survival time compared with standard chemotherapy — meaning more time for some people living with advanced pancreatic cancer.

🎥 Watch Dr. Richard Frank, a pancreatic cancer expert, explain why this FDA approval is so meaningful — and what it could mean for people facing advanced pancreatic cancer.

🏆 Excellence in stroke care starts with an exceptional team!

Sharon Hospital has earned the American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus and Rural Stroke Gold awards! For patients and families in the Sharon area, these awards reinforce that great stroke care is available close to home. ❤️

“This national recognition reflects Sharon Hospital’s commitment to providing effective, timely stroke care,” says Christina McCulloch, president of Sharon Hospital. “For a rural community, access to high-quality stroke care can make a meaningful difference for patients and families. I’m grateful to our teams for their dedication to clinical excellence and to ensuring our community receives the care it deserves.”

“Receiving these awards demonstrates that we provide consistent, excellent stroke care,” says Melissa Braislin, director of rehabilitation and cardiology services and stroke program coordinator at Sharon Hospital. “Our team works every day to follow proven guidelines, respond quickly and coordinate care from the emergency department through recovery. This recognition reinforces the trust our patients and community place in us when every second matters.”

If stroke symptoms appear, remember the acronym B.E.F.A.S.T.:

🧠 Balance: Sudden loss of balance or coordination
🧠 Eyes: Sudden vision changes in one or both eyes
🧠 Face: Facial drooping on one side
🧠 Arms: Arm weakness or numbness
🧠 Speech: Slurred speech or difficulty speaking
🧠 Time: Time to call 911 immediately. Do not drive yourself to the hospital. Emergency medical services can begin the stroke evaluation and help expedite care at the emergency department.

Congratulations to the Sharon Hospital team for continuing to raise the standard for high-quality stroke care in our community! 👏

🩺 A firsthand look at the future of healthcare!

Eight local students recently completed Sharon Hospital’s weeklong Healthcare Career Immersion Program, where they had the opportunity to explore a variety of healthcare careers and see what it takes to care for patients across the hospital.

Throughout the week, students rotated through radiology, emergency services, maternity, surgery, laboratory services, physical therapy and outpatient care, gaining valuable behind-the-scenes experience along the way. They also put their skills into practice with hands-on CPR training. ❤️‍🩹

Students from Housatonic Valley Regional High School participated with support from the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board, while Dover High School students joined through Sharon Hospital’s partnership with the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.

We’re proud to help introduce the next generation to the many rewarding career paths available in healthcare and grateful to our community partners for helping make experiences like this possible! 🌟
