Our nurses are superstars! FIVE stars, to be exact…

Becker’s Magazine recently compiled a list of hospitals that earned five-star ratings for nurse communication and SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital – Shawnee made the list.

The list was the result of a survey of Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, which was developed and administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to measure patients’ perspectives of hospital care.

For nurse communication, data from the survey questions showed how well patients feel that their nurses explained things clearly, listened carefully to them and treated them with courtesy and respect.

We are so excited to announce the addition of the da Vinci Xi® surgical system, bringing advanced robotic-assisted technology to patients in the communities we serve. The addition of robotic-assisted surgery, along with recent technological updates including our new MRI system and a second Cardiac Cath Lab, is another step towards ensuring our patients don’t need to travel outside our community to access high-quality, leading-edge care.

The robotic platform allows us to offer more minimally invasive options, which can mean safer surgery, less postoperative pain and quicker recovery times. Currently in Shawnee, the robotic system is being used for gynecologic procedures such as hysterectomies, ovarian cyst removal and treatment of endometriosis.
As the program grows in the months ahead, we will expand use of the robot to include additional surgeries, including: cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, upper gastrointestinal tract surgeries, colorectal surgery and colon procedures.

We recently celebrated Health Care Week and asked our teams to let us know of a superstar co-worker they’d like to recognize. Christy Gehr, senior director of finance, told us how Carla Whitehurst, a physical therapist in Seminole, stepped in on short notice to speak at a recent Leadership Seminole course. “She stepped in on short notice to help community members learn more about the physical therapy services we offer and how we support patients every day. Carla’s passion for her work truly shines through, and we’re grateful to have her on our team.” We truly are!!

We recently celebrated Health Care Week and asked our teams to let us know of a superstar co-worker they’d like to recognize. Chelsi Blackwolf, RRT, respiratory care lead, was recognized by Jimmy Larson, director of plant operations and maintenance for “living our mission. She consistently brings a positive attitude and has a way of making everyone around her better. She is always willing to go above and beyond to take care of her staff and other departments when needed. I appreciate her dedication, leadership, and compassion. We are fortunate to have her on our team!” We certainly are! 🥰

We recently celebrated Health Care Week and asked our teams to let us know of a superstar co-worker they’d like to recognize. Hayley Keener, a clinical partner in the PCU, was recognized by her manager Jon Cooper, RN. Jon said this about Hayley: “She is diligent about doing what is required in her position but also is always looking for ways to improve our processes. She is helping to build a ‘boot camp’ for our clinical partners to help them do their job duties with quality and consistency. She also picks up extra shifts as a patient experience representative occasionally to help out.” Sounds like a super hero to us!! 😂😍
