🧘 Stretch of the Week: Seated Figure 4 Stretch

Tight hips and lower back discomfort can often go hand in hand. This simple stretch helps improve mobility and reduce tension that may contribute to back pain.

✔ Sit tall in a chair
✔ Cross one ankle over the opposite knee
✔ Gently lean forward until you feel a stretch in the hip/glute area
✔ Hold for 20–30 seconds and switch sides

Remember: stretches should feel gentle, never painful.

Taking just a few minutes each day to move and stretch can help support a healthier spine and better mobility. If stretching isn’t enough to relieve your pain and discomfort, Wisconsin Spine & Pain is here to help you find the best treatment for your condition!

Back pain isn’t always caused by “getting older” or overdoing it at the gym. In many cases, pain is linked to an underlying condition affecting the spine, joints, or nerves. Understanding the source of your pain is the first step toward finding relief.

Common causes of back pain include:

🔹 Herniated Discs
When a spinal disc pushes outward and irritates nearby nerves, it can cause pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness.

🔹 Arthritis
Wear-and-tear changes in the spine can lead to inflammation, stiffness, and chronic discomfort that worsens over time.

🔹 SI Joint Dysfunction
Pain where the spine meets the pelvis may feel like low back, hip, or buttock pain, especially when standing, walking, or changing positions.

🔹 Sciatica
Compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve can send sharp, burning, or shooting pain down the leg.

The good news? Many conditions can be treated with personalized, minimally invasive options designed to help you move and feel better. You don’t have to push through the pain every day, relief starts with identifying the cause and we’re here to help!

If your low back or buttock pain keeps coming back, the source may be your sacroiliac (SI) joint, where the spine connects to the pelvis.

A Sacroiliac Joint Injection is a minimally invasive procedure used to help diagnose and relieve SI joint pain by delivering anti-inflammatory medication directly into the joint.

Common symptoms of SI joint pain may include:
• Pain on one side of the low back or buttock
• Discomfort when standing, walking, or climbing stairs
• Pain that worsens after sitting too long
• Aching that may radiate into the hip or upper leg

At Wisconsin Spine & Pain, our goal is to help patients move more comfortably and return to daily activities with less pain. Relief starts with understanding the source of your pain.

Facet joint pain can make simple movements feel frustrating, especially twisting, bending backward, or standing for long periods.

Facet joints are the small joints in the spine that help provide stability and movement. When these joints become irritated from arthritis, injury, or wear-and-tear, they can cause ongoing neck or back pain.

💉 A facet joint injection is a minimally invasive procedure designed to:
• reduce inflammation
• help diagnose the source of pain
• provide relief so patients can move more comfortably

These injections are performed using image guidance for precision and are often part of a larger treatment plan focused on improving daily function and quality of life.

If chronic neck or back pain is limiting your day-to-day activities, it may be time to explore your options with Wisconsin Spine & Pain!

Muscle knots and tight bands can cause more than discomfort, they can limit movement, trigger headaches, and create ongoing pain in the neck, shoulders, or back.

Trigger Point Injections are a minimally invasive treatment designed to target these painful muscle areas directly. By relaxing tight muscle tissue and reducing inflammation, many patients experience improved mobility and lasting relief.

Trigger Point Injections may help with:
• Muscle spasms and tension
• Neck and shoulder pain
• Upper or lower back pain
• Tension headaches
• Chronic muscle tightness

When stretching, rest, or medications are not enough, targeted treatment may help you get back to daily activities more comfortably!

Whether you’re lifting at work, around the house, or in the gym, using proper lifting technique can help reduce strain on your spine and lower your risk of injury.

Here are a few important lifting tips to keep in mind:

📦 Lift with your legs, not your back: Bend at the knees and keep your back as straight as possible.

📦 Keep objects close to your body: Holding weight too far away can increase pressure on your spine.

📦 Avoid twisting while lifting: Turn your whole body instead of twisting through your back.

📦 Know your limits: If something feels too heavy, ask for help or use lifting assistance when possible.

Small adjustments to the way you lift can make a big difference in protecting your spine and preventing injury over time.

If back pain continues to interfere with your daily activities, the specialists at Wisconsin Spine & Pain can help evaluate the cause and discuss treatment options.

Daily stretching can help improve flexibility, reduce stiffness, and support overall spine health. Even a few minutes of gentle movement each day may help relieve tension in the muscles that support your back and neck.

Here are a few simple stretches that can help keep your spine moving:

🧘 Knee-to-chest stretch – Helps gently stretch the lower back.

🧘 Cat-cow stretch – Encourages mobility through the spine and helps reduce stiffness.

🧘 Child’s pose – Helps relax tight muscles in the lower back and hips.

Stretching should always be done gently and within a comfortable range of motion. Consistency is key when it comes to supporting long-term spine health.

If chronic back or neck pain is limiting your movement or daily activities, the specialists at Wisconsin Spine & Pain can help evaluate the source of your discomfort and discuss treatment options.
