Orthopedic Spine & Sports Therapy (OSST) is owned by a physical therapist that practices here in the clinic. All of our therapists are OMPT certified and have extensive experience with exercises and training. We provide our patients with functional training methods that use advanced

equipment. The treatment is all performed by the therapists themselves, with one on one personal care. The patient's symptoms are addressed with proper treatment devised from a comprehensive evaluation that links that patient's symptoms to the underlying impairment.

Challenging your balance is important to maintain your safety and prevent injury. Find an object, like this foam cylinder, that stands on its own, but may also easily tip over. Tap the top of the object with your toe while maintaining your balance on the other leg. The taller the object, the more difficult the exercise. Do this by a kitchen counter in case you need to hold on!

This shoulder stretch can be done 2 ways - either with a pulley or a towel. If you are using a pulley system, stand underneath and reach behind your back with your palm up so you can pull your arm up your back. Stretch your arm with your other hand guiding the motion.

If you have limitations in reaching overhead, a pulley can help increase your shoulder range of motion passively.

This can be helpful when you have a lot of stiffness in the shoulder itself, or if you have restrictions after surgery. For example, if you had a rotator cuff repair done, you have a certain period of time where the muscles need time to heal, and you shouldn't use the muscles to move the shoulder. But, to prevent the shoulder from stiffening, after a time you can use pulleys to stretch the shoulder, as that arm will just be "along for the ride" without using the muscles themselves to lift your arm for you! You can bring your arm overhead in all different directions. The more out to the side your hand is, the more difficult it can be to stretch your shoulder, so for most people starting with flexion is best. When you stretch your shoulder, you should feel a mild to moderate stretch, but never stretch through pain! We also have pulleys here to give to our patients with shoulder injuries. Come check us out! 💪
