Sobriety is not usually destroyed by one giant decisionβit is often weakened by a series of small compromises. The enemy does not always come with something obvious. Sometimes he whispers, βItβs not a big deal.β βYou can handle this.β βJust this once.β But the Bible warns us that even the little things can have a big impact.
βNor give place to the devil.β β Ephesians 4:27
The Bible does not say, βGive the devil a little place.β It says neither give place. Even the smallest compromise can become an open door. Maybe it is going back to old places, reconnecting with old influences, holding on to secret habits, or entertaining thoughts that God has already delivered you from. What seems small today can become a stumbling block tomorrow.
βA little leaven leavens the whole lump.β β Galatians 5:9
Just a little compromise can slowly spread. One choice leads to another, and before you know it, you may find yourself farther from where God brought you than you ever intended to go.
But here is the good news: you do not have to walk this road alone. God gives us strength to walk away, wisdom to recognize danger, and a way of escape when temptation comes. Protect your sobriety by protecting your heart. Do not compromise what God has delivered you from. What cost you so much to overcome is worth guarding.
Never forget: the smallest compromise can lead you back toward the very chains God broke off of you. Stay close to Him. Stay honest. Stay accountable. And keep walking forwardβone faithful decision at a time.
