🔥 St. Louis, early morning. Darnell Hill was driving to work on Union Boulevard when he saw a house engulfed in flames.
He pulled over.
A woman on the street was screaming that her elderly neighbor was still inside. Cars were honking. People nearby had their phones out, filming.
Darnell Hill parked his car and walked into the burning building.
He found the man inside and got him out.
Darnell Hill is a trauma behavioral health supervisor. He works with people in crisis for a living. Maybe that's why, when the cars were honking and the phones were recording and everyone else was watching, Hill parked his car.
Or maybe it's simpler than that. Maybe he just couldn't drive to work knowing someone was inside.
He got the man out. The man survived.
In a world where the first instinct for a lot of people is to reach for their phone, Darnell Hill reached for a door handle.
