There's a word for what happens in those moments. Cumulative emotional load. And it's one of the most misunderstood things about how the mind works. đź§
We're taught to triage our feelings. Save the big reactions for the big moments. Keep it together for the small stuff. But your non-conscious mind doesn't triage. It stores. Every unprocessed moment gets filed away, and the file keeps growing whether you're paying attention to it or not.
The person who breaks down in the grocery store parking lot isn't dramatic. They've been making deposits into that account for months, maybe years, without ever making a withdrawal. That moment was just the one that finally cleared the balance.
If you've been the person holding it all together for everyone else, please hear this. The holding together and the breaking down are both part of the same process. One doesn't cancel the other out.
You're allowed to put some of it down.
If someone in your life carries everything quietly, send this to them today. đź«‚
