Compassion fatigue is a syndrome that helps those in the helping professions. As an MFT who has both worked in the field (Visiting clients in various locations, such as, schools, homes, prisons, and other places) and in my own private practice, I have struggled with compassion fatigue. It not only affects your work with your clients, but it also affects your personal life with feelings of anxiety and depression, irritability, and other uncomfortable feelings.
I'm actively recruiting MFTs and AMFTs who work in the field for a research study. Not a lot is known about field work affects the emotional and professional quality of an MFT's work and life. If you are a field-working MFT or if you know one who might participate in this research, please reach out to me.
