When a MRI report is normal, but the pain is still real. A clear scan does not always mean "nothing is wrong."

MRI scans are helpful, but they cannot always show:
1. Muscle tightness or trigger points
2. Subtle nerve sensitivity
3. Pain processing changes in the nervous system

Pain can still come from muscles, nerves, posture, movement patterns, or long term irritation - even when imaging looks normal.

A scan is only one piece of the puzzle. Your story, symptoms, and movement assessment matter too.

So, if your report is "normal" but you still hurt, do not ignore your body or doubt yourself. Your pain is real, and you deserve proper evaluation and care.

Forward Head Posture & Cervical Spine Changes. Understanding the Progression.

This image illustrates how changes in cervical spine posture may influence muscle strain, joint loading and overall neck mechanics over time.

The cervical spine normally has a gentle inward curve called cervical lordosis, which helps distribute forces efficiently and supports head movement.

How Posture Affects Intervertebral Disc Pressure
🔷 Key Concept

➡️ Spinal disc pressure changes significantly with posture
➡️ Poor sitting posture can almost double disc load

📊 Disc Pressure by Posture

➟ Standing (Neutral)
• Disc pressure: 100% (baseline)
• Most balanced load distribution

➟ Reclined Sitting (110°)
• Disc pressure: 105%
• ✔️ Slight increase, still relatively safe

➟ Upright Sitting (100°)
• Disc pressure: 115%
• ⚠️ Moderate increase due to reduced lumbar support

➟ Straight Sitting (90°)
• Disc pressure: 140%
• ❗ Increased spinal compression

➟ Forward Leaning (80° – Slouched)
• Disc pressure: 190% 🚨
• 🔴 Highest stress on discs
• Major risk for disc degeneration & herniation

🧬 What Happens to the Disc?

➟ Normal Disc
• Nucleus pulposus evenly distributes pressure
• Annulus fibrosus maintains structure

➟ Compressed Disc (Poor Posture)
• Increased internal pressure
• Nucleus shifts backward
• Higher risk of:
➟ Disc bulge
➟ Herniation
➟ Nerve compression

⚠️ Why Sitting Is Risky

➟ Sitting reduces natural lumbar lordosis
➟ Increases axial compression forces
➟ Sustained flexion → posterior disc loading

💺 Clinical Takeaway

✔️ Best sitting posture:
• Slight recline (100–110°)
• Lumbar support maintained
• Feet flat, hips slightly above knees

✔️ Avoid:
• Slouching
• Forward head posture
• Prolonged static sitting
