Any back pain is serious enough to see a specialist, but when it’s severe and unbearable, then you may need a specialist ASAP. Some immediate/ emergency signs consist of things like numbness around the groin and down your legs, progressive weakness in your back and legs, and new or worsening uncontrollable bladder and bowel changes. These things happening can be due to many reasons, and a lot of the time has to do with your nerves being pinched and pained in your back. If the pain lasts longer than 4-6 weeks, affects your mobility, interrupts your sleep, or feels like a radiating sharp pain then you really need to see a specialist like Dr. Sinha ASAP. If any of these symptoms describe what you are feeling now, please reach us at Axis Spine and Orthopedics!

Aquatics and aquatic therapy are the use of water and its physical properties to get moving in a way that reduces joint stress, alleviates pain, and accelerates recovery. This can be seen as a safe way to transition to another form of therapy or working out if you are still in pain or suffer from reoccurring pain even after physical therapy. The buoyancy of the water allows you to feel lighter and allows you to get that movement without risking further damage. Many people are encouraged to keep working out after physical therapy to keep building those supporting muscles around the pained area so they can stay strong and get stronger to prevent and alleviate the pained area, and aquatics can be a great alternative to lifting weights. Locally, in St. Louis and surrounding areas there are many YMCA’s that have a pool within their facility. They do require a membership, but you get access to the pool, gym, track, and things like the basketball court, making it worth it for your recovery journey. Also, sometimes insurances can cover partial or all costs depending on your insurer. To learn more, please reach out to Specialized Physical Therapy today.

Aging can certainly be a factor in joint pain, but there are many other causes we must pay attention to in order to keep our joints and surrounding muscles strong, stable, and properly supported. In many cases, joint discomfort is connected to underlying spinal health, including spinal mechanics, nerve compression, and overall tissue condition. Common structural and mechanical conditions such as spondylosis, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis are often caused by pressure on the spinal discs or nerves, repetitive stress, poor posture, and everyday wear placed on the body over time. After a car accident you should not ignore back pain, AT ALL. The initial impact usually causes hidden injuries, and the adrenaline and shock can mask symptoms that may show up after the accident and after the adrenaline wears down. Pain can often appear days later, and you don’t want to miss serious, sometimes permanent, conditions that you may not feel initially. What you should do is contact Axis Spine and Orthopedics immediately, even if the pain isn’t immediate. We will be able to evaluate you to see if there is pain and to further investigate pain that you might be feeling from the car accident. If pain persists, we can recommend some of our services like physical therapy, injections, and lastly minimally invasive surgery.

Sitting all day for some people can feel or even be natural to their day-to-day routine. Even though it may be comfortable, it does impact your spine in many ways. Some of the most detrimental things include increased disc pressure, musculoskeletal stiffness and weakness, poor posture, reduced circulation, chronic pain, and tightened hip flexors. All of these affect the spine negatively and can cause lack of blood flow, compression in your spine, bulging disc, and weakness in your supporting spine muscles overtime. There are things that can mitigate the damage and lessen discomfort or pain when sitting. Some of these include taking frequent breaks every 30-60 minutes, using proper ergonomics and making sure your chair supports your back properly, using a lumbar support pillow behind your lower back, and occasionally switching positions so the discomfort doesn’t continue while sitting. Sitting can be comfortable, but for the best posture and spine comfort always alternate between sitting and standing. Being in one position too long can be the main cause of most of these symptoms.

"The employees here are special, they take their time to get to know you and understand your injuries. From every pain to every question I asked they were there to walk me thru every moment. Mrs Nikki is a bright rare of sunshine, Always smiling, laughing and went over every concern I had she went above and beyond. As for therapy, I had the pleasure of working with both Travis and Polly who took their time with me, listened to my concerns, we weighed all options when it came to what I wanted to do and what they knew I could do. They were patient with me, my work schedule and really took the time to know me. If I had one word to explain my experience, I would say OUTSTANDING!! Last but not least, the receptionist staff are always smiling and greet everyone by first name basis! Anyone from Grace to Mellissa this is not just a team it’s a family. If you are looking for a friendly, loving, patient and kind place Axis is it. I would recommend them a million times again and again."
