Happy 131st birthday, Chiropractic. 🎂
On September 18, 1895, in Davenport, Iowa, D.D. Palmer gave the first chiropractic adjustment to a man named Harvey Lillard, who worked in the same building.
Lillard had been deaf for about 17 years — ever since the day he bent over in a cramped space and felt something give in his back. Palmer felt along his spine, found a vertebra out of place, and put it back.
Lillard described what happened next himself, in print, in 1897:
"I was deaf 17 years and I expected to always remain so, for I had doctored a great deal without any benefit... in two treatments I could hear quite well."
Chiropractic looks very different now than it did that afternoon. One hundred thirty-one years of training, research and refinement will do that. But every adjustment given anywhere in the world today traces back to that one room in Davenport.
To everyone who walks through our door: thank you for letting us take care of you. It's the best job there is.
Turn in your Wellness Bingo cards at the front desk today — and happy birthday to a profession we love. 💚
